They are waiting for Jesus to come back. The more stain glass windows, and expensive things they have in the church, the more likely they are to go to heaven. Jesus is attracted to stain glass like a crow to pennies.
Sure enough, when they get enough money, you will hear Jesus returning....... "on dasher, on dancer, on prancer on vixen"..........
....Or the whole religion is just a racket.

If he REALLY needed that money he'd come get it. I'm not dumb enough just to had it over without knowing exactly what he needs it for and it better be good. If he's so all-knowing and omnipotent why can't he get a job? I would think that what with knowing EVERYTHING and being able to do ANYTHING he should be able to get a really high paying job. If he knows everything doesn't he know the winning lotto number? Or does he know everything in the world since the beginning of time BUT the winning lotto number? Now that I really think about it he ought to be giving me some money!!

Tithing is reasonable because it is a reminder to you that God gets the best of your best. As another answerer stated, it comes with a blessing. I've been tithing for many years and can verify it's true; I've tested God on it and came out proving it's true.
I'd tell you all about the blessings, but then you'd start tithing and tell two friends and so on and pretty soon everyone would be blessed and I wouldn't feel so special .... lol

Tithing has never been about giving money to God, it has always been to support the ministers. In ancient Israel the tribe of Levi (one of the sons of Jacob/Israel) were the priests of the region, they held no other job so the other tribes were to pay a portion of their money to support the Levites. This tradition carried over to the Christian church since ministers really have no "employer" in the common sense, their service is to God and the Church but as God does not pay a salary the church voluntarily contributes a sum.

People don't tithe to "god," they tithe to whatever church they belong to... this is how churches get income to sustain and advance their activities, including spreading the irrational and primitive belief in fictional beings such as "god."

Our church uses tithing to help others less fortunate, with housing or utilities or diapers etc. To aide those affected by disasters, for medicine, medical expenses, for water wells in Africa, for Missionaries, to build new churches, to provide activities for the youth and their non- member friends, and the list goes on. I would be homeless if others didn't find tithing necesarry, My husband lost his job and the church helped us through that. All because God commanded us to share our wealth with others. God shows his face everyday. I guess you haven't taken the time to notice what he looks like?
Peace.

This is where the word 'faith' comes into play. See, we are to give from our hearts, in faith.
Therefore, what we give goes to God one way or another. Our faith is the God will make sure it is being used in the right way - and his way is always the right way, in the end. Sure there may be corrupt churches or people. But let God deal with that.

A teacher is worth his wage. If you go to a church and use their facilities and learn from their study then you should give to keep that going.
God did show his face when he came to earth in the form of a man in order to save all mankind from their sin and then we killed him. Even if God showed His face, in all His glory, those who choose not to believe in Him still would not believe. He could do miracles like He did in the old testament times in Exodus but still people wouldn't believe just like they didn't back then. It's a matter of the heart not the eyes.

To understand tithing you would need to understand that faith in God is not based on seeing him in a physical form, but faith in what cannot be seen, yet you feel His presence. Tithing is not all about money, it's the giving of ones gifts in anyway you can to serve God. You are right, money is given to people and we are thought to check everything out to see if it is of God and that includes the church or organization we choose or feel led by God to give to. If they are doing the work of God and are Bible based then we are giving tithes to God for the church is made up of the body of believers and Christ is the head of the Church. If you tithe to a church who's doctrines are not based on The Holy Bible, then you are not tithing to God. I consider giving help to others in need as a form of tithing. Anything that is done to help others out of love and expecting nothing in return is noble and just. I believe that even persons who do not share faith in God can respect that. Anyone who helps others and puts others before themselves is doing what Jesus taught us all to do in His short time here on earth. There are many churches that large portions of the tithes they receive go to helping the needy, organizing relief groups to help in time of disasters and contribute to helping better the community around them. The church I attend has family's in our community that have fallen on hardships due to sickness, loss of the primary bread earner in the family and other hardships that we commit to supporting while they get back on their feet. Please don't take this as me saying look at what we are doing, we don't get the news paper or local tv stations to give us props, we are taught in the Bible to not let the right hand see the good that the left hand does, least you boast of these things. I'm just saying that tithing helps enable the church to reach out to help others. As far as God showing His face at Christ Second Coming Everyone Will See Him and even the ones who did not believe in Him will for at that time:
Phil 2:10-11
10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, 11 and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
It is my prayer that as many people on this earth as possible will come to know Christ and when after they have believed and driven by faith will by among the ones happy when He "shows His face".
