The above is the link for U.S. citizens requirements. Basically though, if traveling by air, passports are needed now. If traveling by land and sea, passports will be required in Jan 2008. However, if you go across the border by land and sea now, you will need a birth certificate and state issued i.d. to cross the border.

If you are traveling by air, you already need one.

If you are traveling by land or sea, as early as January 2008.

I would suggest you get one ASAP if you are planning a trip. Wait times are only getting longer and longer as the deadline gets closer and closer.
