Of course, the UN could pass resolutions; those would stop Iran.

Just look at how effectively UN resolutions have stopped Saddam Hussein, the Bosnian/Serbian genocide, the Darfur genocide, the Cambodian Genocide, et al.

First, the fewer nations have nuclear weapons, the better. The more nukes proliferate among nations, the greater the chance of nuclear war. Nuclear war is the war without winners. The reason for the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty was and is to avoid an increase in nukes, and ultimately to facilitate nuclear disarmament. Most countries with nukes have signed the Non-Proliferation Treaty, including Russia, the US, France and others. These are the reasons that no nation should get nukes that does not have them already. Now, as for Iran, there are specific reasons they should not have nukes. Iran is ruled primarily by Mullahs with an apocalyptic view of history, and a repressive view of how people should live. The nation is also continually fighting with its neighbors, whether openly or covertly. It was at war with Iraq for years. Now it supports terrorists in Iraq and Palestine/Israel, and has been known to kidnap people from boats in international waters. Ahmadinejad, the President [elected by fraud], has repeatedly expressed the hope that both Israel and America should be destroyed. After the fraudulent 2009 election, millions of Iranians protested in the streets; many were injured, killed, or tortured. Eventually, the people became discouraged and scared, and quit marching in the streets. So Ahmadinejad is still President. I cannot go into all the crimes and provocations of this regime. I do hope that the Iranian people will persist in trying to get a better government. And I certainly think that the current regime in Iran should be prevented from getting nuclear weapons.

First of all the UN couldn't stop a grandma from taking a sucker from her grandchild they are so impotent. Iran knows this!
If Iran is KNOWN to begin to develop nuclear weapons Israel will be the one to take out the facilities! Just as they did in Iraq. For two reasons they WILL be the ones to do it. First because Iran has pledged to drive the Jews into the sea and foremost because they are the only ones with the balls to do it!
Everyone in America unless they have gone to war and seen combat have no idea what it is like to live under the threat of war. We got a taste in 911 but i fear that feeling of outrage has faded in the public view. we feel so safe in our lives. WAKE UP!

It will never happen. First, you have to understand that Iran is backed by the Russians. Russia has several votes in the UN security council. Besides Russia, there is France and Germany and several other countries that also have a vote. They get the majority of oil from Iran. They are not going to approve bombing a country and upset their ability to get oil to make into gas.
And, more importantly, nor will the US. We as a country already complain that the price of gas is too high, although when you compare the price of gas in the US compared to other countries, we have it cheap. But, If Iran were to be bombed, about 20-25% of the oil being shipped to the US would be cut off. The price of a gallon of gas would jump overnight from $3.00 a gallon to $10 or $15 a gallon. Are you ready to pay that amount? I doubt it.

We could have stopped them 20 years ago through diplomacy. After the CIA deposed the democratically-elected Prime Minister Mohammed Mossadegh the US entered into a civil co-operation program with the Shah. It is interesting that the US was the main driving force for Iranian nuclear power, and were all but silent in the 1980's when Islamic Republic re-started it.

I think war is inevitable with Iran. Iran has been trying to pick a fight with any and everybody. I can foresee a heavy bombing campaign that will leave Iran in ruin's. Its sad to say but I think Iran will get what its been asking for.

This has got to be the easiest question I have ever answered. All the UN has to do is give the ok for the use of force and We will send a half a hundred tomahawks down range and their nuclear business will be out of business.
