I've never been to one in my life. If any of you know what typically happens at one I would love to know! Is it very similar to prom but for ROTC?
Is it very dressy like prom?
Thanks!

I am an ROTC graduate, but that was a long time ago.

It sort of depends, but, I am going to assume from the way the question is worded you are not the ROTC member.

We were not to wear a boutonniere with our uniform.

It is very much as a formal prom, and it is very dressy. He will probably be wearing his uniform, with a white shirt and tie. If is is commissioned, there will be a formal "Mess Dress Uniform" [I swear I am not making this name up].

However, it has been awhile, and customs change from campus to campus, so you might want top ask your date.

Have a good time, and don't let the uniforms spook you.

No, they can't wear it with their uniform. You will wear a formal dress. It's very much like prom in terms of the dress and getting your hair and make up done. Remember, it's still a military function and chose a dress that will not be considered to flashy or inappropriate. I have seen some of the prom dresses out there and they are pretty skimpy. Stay way from those. There will be awards and speeches given. Dancing will start later in the evening. Have a great time!

he will be in uniform and therefore unable to wear a boutenniere. . based on what my nieces have been wearing to their proms lately, a Ball is dressier.. think floor length gowns in a simple and tasteful cut.. no slits up to the butt or down to the navel.

you want tasteful and elegant, not hoochie mama.
