A friend of mine had a dog with fleas and she had severe asthma. Her doctor told her she wasn't allowed to use any chemicals in the house for anything. To get rid of the fleas she would sprinkle the house and yard with ordinary table salt. Wait 24 hours (yes it's weird to walk on) then vacuum. Do this again one week later. The fleas eat the salt, get dehydrated, and die.

I've tried this myself with an indoor/outdoor cat. It has worked great for me. And after I treated the yard the first time, I saw one flea in the next two years.

The bad news is that once the fleas are in your house, they lay eggs, the eggs hatch, and then you have more fleas. Flea eggs get into everything from clothing to carpets and furniture. You need to wash these items in the washing machine and repeat every few days becuase new eggs can hatch in hidden places.

You'll need to vacuum your house DAILY, wash all sheets and bedding, vacuum under the couch, the couch cushions, everywhere. Consider getting one of those "flea bombs" to fumigate the entire house. But the truth is, you'll have to wash all the bedding and vacuum once you do the "bombing" anyway. So try just keeping up with stringent washing religiously for at least 2 weeks first before resorting to "chemical" warfare against fleas.

You may also want to consider using Prevention, an oral medication that won't have an immediate impact, but will help break the flea cycle by preventing additional flea eggs in your home. A topical application like frontline is also very good for preventative measures.

It will take some time to eliminate the fleas, but if you keep up with it, you should see results in less than a few days.

Good luck.

There are several treatments for cats and dogs that have fleas. You ca find Advantage and Frontline at vets and pet stores, you may also find special shampoos that smother the fleas. Those are some ways.

These are ways to flea proof your indoor\outdoors. All you really need is a 3/4 to 1 inch pan filled with soap water. Set them in various areas around the house and outside if you wish, after you have treated your dog and cats, this is a way to attract them off of your animals. I'd keep the cats and dog out of the way from the soapy water, for obvious reasons. We did this during the evening\nighttime, since we put our cats up then.

What does the soapy water do? Well, it simply attracts fleas, who need water, and when they jump into the water they die of drowning and soap.

That's as far as I can help, I hope that you are able to get rid of the fleas from your home!

I'm not sure shaving them would be the best idea... but it would help possibly with the attraction of them away from their bodies and into the pans. Still, only use this as an emergency or last resort.

I don't believe you can give cats the same flea treatment as dogs. I would take them all to the vet to be treated according to what they are.

Then while they are away being treated, need to vacuum really well making sure to dump the bag into the trash outside. Then treat your home with some home applications available at the pet stores or grocery store. Might even want to treat your yard too since that is a source.

Once that is done, you should be able to bring the pets back home. Any reappearance should be shortlived since the medicine from the vet kills their ability to reproduce.

Go to the vet. There is a medication you can easy put on the neck of the dog and cats each month that will kill those fleas.

Did you know YOU can get fleas from the animals?

If you don't have the money for a vet, a little bit of garlic in all their food helps. In addition, fleas also burrow in the carpet and then their babies hatch, starting the process all over again. They have flea bombs and they need to be used. Also, try something because this cant continue or your ankles and shins are going to be full of flea bites too.

personally I have learned that having a pest control company spray your house every other month works great. I would also get a flea treatment from you vet but since my house has been treated regularly my cat and dog have NO fleas.

It sounds like you may want to use flea powder, try it. Advantage for Cats and Dogs is probably a better choice, expensive, but it will be worth it. You can get it at your Animal Clinic.

You need to flea bomb your house and yard and get rid of the fleas on all your pets.
