two reasons....
... Nazi's wanted to have a cheap and more efficient way of killing people....
... they also wanted to spare the executioners the psychological impact of mass killing...

They began killing them in other ways *in addition* to continuing to shoot them. Read "The Rise and Fall Of The Third Reich" by William Shirer for a graphic description of the Nazis efficiently shooting entire Jewish families --- including terrified children --- by making the victims stand next to an open pit grave site. The victims would fall into the pit, saving the Nazis the trouble of burying them. The Nazis never stopped shooting their Jewish victims (or other victims). They just developed other, more efficient methods of mass murder to use also. "Never again."

Ammo costs money! Plus a lot of it furthered scientific reasearch. And also they did not know what was hapening as opposed to lining them up at a trench with 30 HJ's with guns behind them. It also was a question of being morraly right or wrong and the nazis that did the killing were beginning to be sick in the head so they made it much less personal and switched to the almighty famous zyklon showers. ..... Oh boy, I love stump the dummy questions, although yours is vague? They killed Jewish people, Gypsies, Homosexuals and political prisoners to include slavs in just about every way imaginable. Shooting, carbon Dioxide (Gas vans), Gas chambers, hanging, you name it they did it. And, bonus question for you! What where the units first deployed on the eastern front specifically fielded to round up and kill Jews called?
Habib is all over it folks!

They ran out of bullets in many instances. They tied them together and drown some in groups. The Nazis were far too creative in their violence and wickedness and I hope that they are in a very special circle of Hell.

Well two reasons I know. One was they wanted to save on bullets for the Army. The second was they started noticing the phycological affects it was having in the execution teams.

Because they got caught up with using the bullets against the combative forces. It was more cost and resource effective to gas them because of their intended goals.

Cheaper to gas them en masse and less messy.
Plus, it's less traumatic on the killers to kill when you don't have to directly see the people that are getting killed. So, you can get more killed by getting more killers that way.

From the history books that I saw, it was economics. The cost of bullets would have been too much. They were looking at cost savings.
