It's a minipin. He's still a pup. His nail are a bit sharp so I tried to trim it yesterday. He's not as lively now and he's not eating much.

ok this is what u did wrong: cats and dogs have what is called a quick in their nails and its like nerves ,u cut the nails to short to the quick so they bled( just like if u cut your nails yo short, use hydrogen perxiode then put some clotting powder on it.he probable dosent want to walk because it hurts.

if the nail is bleeding, use a styptic pencil or powder to stop the bleeding. If you can't get that easily, cornstarch will do in a pinch.

If you can't keep the bleed from re-starting, call a vet.

He's probably not lively because his foot hurts, OR he could have a blood infection (it's possible, not necessarily likely). Eating however shouldn't have anything to do with his nail (unless he has the aforementioned suggestion). See a vet.

It is a good idea to have shaving alum or styptic pencils at home for general first aid -- when a nail is accidentally cut too short, you have the necessary tools on hand to stop bleeding. Alum and styptic pencils can be purchased over the counter at drug stores in the first aid supply area.

If you don't have alum or a styptic pencil, you can use flour or corn starch to help stop bleeding. Pack a small amount in the cut nail end and apply pressure. Holding ice on the cut surface (if the dog will allow) will also help stop bleeding.

Depending on how bad it is, they make something called styptic powder that stops the bleeding. But I think its actually a vein in the nail, so you may want to consult a vet.

You can try what we do. It may or may not work. To stop the bleeding, rub a bar of soap on the end of his nail (which im guessing thats where u cut the vein). It should stop the bleeding. If not, srry.

Though you may stop the bleeding, he is still in pain. Get him to the vet.

put some candle wax on it to stop the bleeding (not like hot candle wax though.... that would hurt.)
