The square root of a negative number is imaginary, that is why they give it a symbol i. I don't think anyone ever claimed the Bible is a complete mathematics lesson. The Science section of the Bible is also missing some sections as well, like basic astronomy.

In the set of real numbers, the square root of a negative number does not exist. However in the set of complex numbers a special " number " is defined such as ( i )^2 = -1 Now the square root of a negative number is possible. For example since ( 3i )^2 = 9 i^2 and i^2 = - 1 we get ( 3i )^2 = -9 .Then the square root of -9 is 3i.

Brilliant! You've just demonstrated how using an imaginary symbol can be useful, and profitable! How many modern technalogical marvels would be impossible, with out trig? Not very many!
The question is, are the concepts such as infinity, empty set, and i the product of a finite mind, such as humans have? NO. The have to come from outside our brainboxes. Inspiration, but from where?

I've read enough fiction to say that there is no, I repeat no, science in ANY work of fiction.
I simply cannot fathom how people use religion to explain the creation of the universe. Many of them still think the Earth is flat, we descended from apes (we are related to apes), and the entire planet was covered in a flood (not to mention that some guy named Noah gathered two of every creature). They should re-name it "The World According to Idiots."

I guess the need to understand square roots doesn't figure much in God's eyes. You can be sure if it's not in the Bible it doesn't matter!

Because the bible is an anti-intellectual diatribe... not a treatise on mathematics... And just a note to the answer just above this one... The bible is full of imaginary things....

If you had read the Bible with an open heart, you would not now be asking demonic influenced questions.

It doesn't need to. That is why God invented math. Most can live without the j factor (or some call it i), but no one can successfully live without the Bible.
