I graduate high school in four weeks and I plan on moving this summer, I live in Florida and I really want to make my way up to New York, somewhere in New York City. I hate it here. I live in a Hell hole. Are apartments expensive there? Im going to need to work obviously. I need help all around, tips and any information anyone can possibly give me about moving and what I can do to sustain myself. This is the begining of my life and I dont plan on living some half assed lack luster existence. If New York isnt a good local perhaps someone can tell me of some other amazing places I can go to. Anything you all can tell me will be greatly appreciated.

A cheap apartment in NYC is about 1500 a month. A 4 year college degree will get you a job that starts around 35,000 a year. a high school diploma gets about minimum wage, which is 7.25 an hour. So even if you get 10 an hour, you will need to work about 80 hours a week, just to pay for your apartment. Also, you still need to pay for metro card, which is 74 a month, and you may want to eat, which is about 200 a month, if you never eat out, and you may also want to have electricity, gas, and water...another 150 a month. So after your 80 hour week, you'll still need a part time job to fill the gaps. You may want to research somewhere else. Or go to college...you can get out of your "hellhole' and obtain an education. Going to school in NY can be fun. And you could dorm cheaper.

Leave Florida for New York City???? No, I do not live in the city but I live in the state. And I know that the city is very expensive. You might want to think about college somewhere first. NY is also has high tax rates. One question I have to ask you is why would you give up Florida's sunshine for the crappy weather in NY? The winters get bitterly cold, it rains and snows alot and there just isn't a lot of sun year round. It gets depressing at times.

With only a high school degree you won't make much money. Your best bet is to check out the craigslist website. You'll need several roommates to be able to afford rent in Brooklyn and you can forget about renting in Manhattan unless you're related to Donald Trump.
