Adam then Eve. They had children Cain, Able, Seth and others. Cain killed Able and was banished to Nod. There he knew a wife. Where did these people come from, because he did not marry his sister. Maybe God created other people after he created the Garden of Eden couple. Who knows how he did it. If I am not mistaken, the line of Cain was wiped out in the Great Flood.

The oldest known hominid is Australopithecus afarensis. Among the scientific community the very first one discovered is named "Lucy". She is female according to her bone structure and is roughly 3.5 million years old.
Further discoveries have placed the existance of Australopithecus between 3.9 million and 2.9 million years ago.
Human beings are called Homo Sapiens Sapiens. We are dated to around 400 000 years ago.
There is no why... evolution happened. And no, it didn't happen overnight either.
Homo Sapiens existed along side Homo Neanderthalensis which actually only died out roughly 24 000 years ago leaving us as the main predator.
