Dear Edward,
Alcoholism is a disease -- just like diabetes, etc. You can learn how to live a sober life but there is no cure for alcoholism. And as one of the answers said, you cannot do it alone. If you want to get sober, look up AA in your phone book or call 411. AA can direct you to the meetings in your area and you can find out what it is like. I am a recovering alcoholic and believe me, I had no intention of stopping drinking. But I started attending AA meetings and I will be forever grateful to the person who issued an ultimatum to me. On the 27th I will have 6 years of sobriety and life couldn't be any better. You have to do it for yourself -- not anyone else because it won't work. Give yourself the gift of sobriety.
There is also a genetic connection that makes some people more likely to have addictive personalities.
If you want more info, check my e-mail address. If not, you have my prayers.

Alcoholism is not a sin.
It is an illness, see a doctor.
Some people drink alcohol because they are depressed, depression can be caused by many things, poor diet, a tragedy in life, social pressures, boredom etc....
A physical check up can help, talk to a doctor about your alchohol use, they can check you to see if it is physiological, and steer you in the right direction to deal with your problem.
Drinking alchohol only makes you feel "better" for a little while, then when you are sober again, all of your problems are still there, and many times they are worse.
Talk to your family, or friends about this, seek help before it ruins your life.

An ailment, it is so addictive and after seeing what's has performed to associates and kin i've got no longer had a drink in 3 years to teach my help to them, it incredibly is worse than any drug accessible and it incredibly is legal, in Qld they have stricten the regulations on eating yet i think of they might desire to place the legal eating age to 21 and supply up the advertsing of alcohol in the direction of youthful human beings. It destroys lives, too many infants die drink making use of then have wellness problems at a youthful age.

Alcohol is not the sin or the illness. It is how we handle it or let it handle us. If you feel you are an alcoholic, please get help now before it destroys your life and health. I suspect that since you ask the question, you are the one who feels like help is needed. Good luck.

Its a treatable illness and you have to admit that you can not handle the problem alone and you have a problem to first begin the "fixing" of the illness. Good luck to you and better health and life for you.

Illness.
I'm a bartender and have seen many good, genuine people (co-workers and regular customers) battle something that they can not control. You are probably just like them.
If you're asking, it's obviously that you care about yourself.
Good luck to you.

It is both. But so are alot of things. Alot of times things that are wrong " feel right". You might need to refer to the 12 step program for alcoholics.

Drinking Alcohol is not a sin.
Drunkenness is a sin.
The concept is that we are to have self-control - no one and no thing is to be in control of our mind and behavior except us. The reason that you need to be in control of your self to see that you do no wrong things (10 Commandments/ Golden rule ) To allow yourself to be drunk, is a mind-altering state where you act and speak outside of what you would normally do when you are self-controlled.
An Illness? A habitual behavior, addictive substance to be sure. Causing the lack of control over your own choices.
