I believe irritable bowel syndrome is colitis with diarrhea at times.

Not much difference at all. In fact, I think they are both the same disease, only with different names. The symptoms are diarrhea which alternates with constipation, bloating, abdominal tenderness, gas and flatulence, and cramps. Certain foods make it worse. If you suspect you have either of these conditions, you should go to your doctor and be tested. There are medications that can vastly improve these symptoms and make you feel a lot better. colitis is ulcerative and eats into and thru the intestinal lining. eventually necessitating the removal of intestines and even stomach.
