Both services take only the best of the best for those positions. If you want to make it, you have to have top grades now in high school. Take advanced math and science classes - trig, college algebra, and calculus, advanced biology too. If you're good enough, you can get into the the US Naval Academy or the Air Force Academy. Survive that, and you will greatly improve your chances of getting the job you want. If you don't go to a service academy, go to a good engineering or science school in your area, and be sure it's one with a ROTC program. Join that, too!
US News and World Report publishes rankings of colleges. Check there for a good engineering or science school.
When you're about to graduate, look into the Officer Candidate School. These take college graduates and train them to be officers.

Here is my advice for what it's worth. If you wish to join, but think latter in life you wish to pursue a civilian occupation, go Air Force. If you wish to join and make a career, then go Navy. The reasons are; with the Air Force you have very marketable civilian skills (pilot). With the Navy the Submarine Commander can rise as High in the ranks as his individual skills take him. Get GREAT (not good) grades in high school and college.

The Airforce is starting to slowly phase out, imho.
Getting recruited has been hard for years. Unlike other branches where they fall over each other trying to get to you.
Recently people have been getting kicked out for things as minor as Speeding Tickets.
Not to mention, I don't believe the Airforce does much. They do alot of supply and that's about it. Navy owns the skies and the water and technology. Marines own amphibious assaults and blitzkrieg, Army owns the ground. Navy, Marines, and Army have to take a base for the Airforce to even begin operations.
The Navy isn't very well respected. But, their officers are probably the most respected out of any branch. Becoming a pilot will be VERY competative. You will have a better chance being a pilot in the Navy than the Airforce and even if you do get pilot in the Airforce chances of you flying a C-130 is alot more than an F-22 or F-15.

I'm hoping you go Navy but that has to be your personal choose. Good Luck
Here is some infromation of the Naval Academy......
~~ Application for Nomination.......
1)If you are in high school but not old enough to apply(you have to be atleast 17), you may request printed information and be entered into the Naval Academy database by filling out the request information form. Once entered into the database, you will be forwarded information on the Naval Academy Summer Seminar during the winter of your junior year and be able to apply online during February and March. This application will also serve as a preliminary application to the Naval Academy.
2)To receive an offer of appointment to the Naval Academy, an applicant must obtain a nomination from an official source. There are many nomination sources and applicants are encouraged to apply to all available sources. This normally includes a U.S. Representative, two U.S. Senators and the Vice President of the United States.
I'm hoping you go Navy but that has to be your personal choose. Good Luck

Well, you did manage to pick out the two most difficult jobs to get i n the entire US military!! I hope you have got the academics as well as the physical attributes. Without doubt, the respective US Service Academies are the best choice for your college, but again the selection process is exceedingly difficult to get through. Naval ROTC or Air Force ROTC at one of the 'minor' academies like the Citadel or VMI are your next best shot. Then ROTC at good civilian schools. Being AF myself, I can tell you this, only a few folks in the Air Force actually are on flight status (pilots and crew members), most are land based. Of all the ones on flight status, only 10-20% (depends on what planes and helios we are using at any given time) are pilots. Of all the pilots, 10-15% are flying fighter/interceptors. Think of it this way, getting a fighter jock slot is like getting a starting job on an NFL team.
Good luck you! And thank you for considering service to our nation in the military.

Either is a noble field to go to. If you want to be an officer in submarines Naval Science is a good choice. If you want to be a pilot usually any science major would do. Aeronautical Science would probably work best for pilot. Embry Riddle is a college that will get you an Aeronautical Degree. Either way using the ROTC program to help you with college tuition is a good idea.

The US Navy is a very good choice, you have to finish school, get very good grades, and go to the
nearest US Navy Recruiter and talk to him/her about the advantages of joining the service.

The Air Force is the more sane of the two, but then, I was in the Air Force so I can't be objective.
I am a decorated, disabled veteran who advises all young people to stay away from our military right now. This government - Dems and GOP alike - is abusing the selfless service of our troops. People are dying to meet political ends not to protect our nation. Don't let millionaire power-mongers like Bush and Kerry waste your life so they and their friends can line their pockets with more cash.
If you want to serve your country, join your local police force.
