I was looking at the standardized growth chart the doctors use for percentiles and such - and it says a 36 month old baby would be in the heaviest group at 38 lbs. Most of the strollers Ive seen recently show weight limits of 40-45 lbs. A few of the high-end strollers go 5 lbs heavier - but isnt the child walking by then? How long is a stroller used for a child?

My son is nearly 4 and for the most part we don't use the stroller. But there are times--like trips to the zoo or a theme park--when he still likes to take a break from walking and ride in the stroller. He's still nowhere near the 50lb limit on our stroller, but its nice to know that we still can use it when we need to.

Hahaha, I am thinking that although you've gotten some good answers the people are missing this one thing - everyone I know with older kids and a baby/toddler, for SOME REASON the kids that are 7 and 8 and 9 and 10 just seem to think they can sit in the stroller anytime they want, or they will all pile in together. I have heard MORE parents scream GET OUTTA THE BABY'S STROLLER! at the older kids.

Wow your toddler is a enormous boy! My 3 and a nil.5 twelve months previous weighs 38 lbs :) My teenagers have all ran on the smaller component, so I even have never run into this concern in the past. My Graco Quattro excursion Double stroller has a 40lb weight shrink in the front and 50 in the back. the only version holds as much as 50 lbs. My sister has one and loves it. yet they are extra costly approximately $one hundred fifty. in any case, i do no longer think of you will hit upon a stroller that has extra then a 40 lbs weight shrink this is inexpensively priced. So i might in all danger the two basically shop making use of your massive jeep one ( offering the shrink is above 40lbs) once you do want it.

Would you really want to take a chance with the safety of your child. Perhaps the extra weight is for the stress put on a stroller when carrying achild as well as what you store underneath in the carrier. This additional weight could add extra pounds and stress on the wheels and joints wouldn't you think. It makes sense to me. You use the stroller as often as it is necessary and you are within the accepted weight limits.

It depends on the child. My daughter is 3 and 32 lbs.
We don't use the stroller much, unless it is a long walk. Then we take the stroller so she can take some breaks.

All of the above answers + extra stuff. How many times do you see someone out with their kids walking and the stroller packed with stuff? I have seen it many times. In addition, if you have a child that is in the 40 lb range then stuff another 40 lbs of stuff in the basket below, you are maxing out the tires pretty quickly.

And yes, if the kid is 8; they should be walking, If you can't control them, don't let them loose on public!

I have seen parents trying to push around grade school aged kids in those umbrella strollers all the time. They do it so they can strap them down to keep them from wandering. They must go thru alot of strollers.

Lazy parents.
They put kids that are too big in the stroller, they let their kids eat donuts and cookies all day to keep them quiet, thus making a child of stroller age too big.

The stroller companies don't want to be sued by some idiot who didn't know better than to put a small elephant in the stroller.

I think alot of parents use the stoller so they can take longer walks.. The baby or toddler doesn't get as tired out and can look around and explore all he or she wants... I know parents who take their 5 year olds around and they all seem to have a great time.. If they get really tired and fall asleep Mamma or Daddy can keep on a pushin instead of carrying the child... Works out for all really:)

Kids with physical or mental disabilities may not actually be walking by 45lbs--this is one reason to include a warning label.
