find calorie/fitness calculator on the net, enter your stats and it will tell you how many calories a day you need to maintain your weight. take 300-400calories off that number and that's how much you need to lose weight.
eat 5-6 small meals a day instead of 3 big ones.
5-8 servings of fruit and vegetables a day.
8 glasses of water a day.
4-6 times a week cardio work out for 30-50min plus light weight training.
no junk food, no sodas, no white flour (white bread, pasta, cookies, cakes etc)

Sticking to a "name brand" diet might not be right for your body, and you might not enjoy the diet; meaning you are less likely to be successful. Also things like the lo-carb diet are unhealthy, the body needs carbs and cutting them out is dangerous. I would start by breaking up your meals and eating 5 or 6 small meals per day, this helps to speed up your metabolism which will help in weightloss. Also foods like fruits and veggies and fish have nutrients that are missing from many peoples' diets so try to get some of those. Lastly the best way to lose weight is to exercise take the stairs not the elevator, park at the back of the parkinglot, walk on a treadmill while watching tv. There are lots of simple ways to lose weight.

Just about all diets are short term and are worthless. All of them will help you loose 5-10 pounds, then it slows down and you start cheating on the diet and you end up gaining back 10-15 pounds. The ONLY thing that will work long term is to change your life style. You have to eat fewer calories and do more exercise. If you are not willing to do that then go back and hide your head in the sand again. You can say all you want that you have tried all the diets and none of them work when in truth the only thing that doesn't work is you. It is very hard to loose weight, but you can do it.

My mom for many years was a dietrician for LA weightloss and it has seemed to be one of the most effective weightloss programs so I would recommend it. However it is a little more pricey than some of the other programs.

Weight Watchers which costs $17 to $20 to join, $10 to $14 weekly (more affordable) has been reviewed by consumer research to have the most consistent, effective, long term results. this link talks more about it

and one thing i will tell you is to drink lots of water and not soda, i lost 10 pounds in a few weeks just by doing that.

GOOD LUCK

I would suggest weight watchers. It consists of a balanced diet with high fiber and low fat, but still allows you to eat what you like (within reason). it can become a sensible way to eat for your life time and not jsut a fad like some of the diets out there.. it deals with portion size, and adding exercise... you can keep track of what you eat and how much you lose, plus attending meetings can be like a support network that gets into the issues of why we eat and what we can do to feed ourselves without over eating. you get tips and recipes, it keeps you accountable and helps you to see the struggles and victories that others have :)

best of luck to you... dont give up (I have a friend that lost 100 pounds, so it works)

Fad diets do wonders for temporary results. But 40-50 pounds is alot, I have no experiencing with fad diets but im pretty sure they aren't ment for that dramatic of a weight loss. At 40-50 its no longer a weight change its a life style change, and your life (usually) is long, so it's gonna have to be a gradual drop. Yea it's alot to swallow, but thats just how it is.

The south beach diet worked really well for me...but it was hard. I love carbs-and you cant have any carbs the first few weeks. I did loose a lot of weight quickly though and I definatly recommend it!
Good Luck!

Losing weight is a simple equation: if you burn more calories than you eat, the weight will come off. Start off by estimating how many calories you burn each day using the calorie calculator http://straighthealth.com/pages/tools/ca... This will give you an idea of how many calories to eat. Healthy weight loss is 1-2 pounds per week. To lose 1 pound per week you need to create a calorie deficit (burn more than you eat) of 500 calories per day. To lose 2 pounds a week, you have to double the deficit to 1000 calories per day. You can achieve this by eating less, exercising more or a combination of both.

i've been doing weight watchers for 10 weeks and have lost 20 lbs...i like it because there is nothing extra to buy..you pay for the weekly meetings and are not required to buy anything else...i do the point system and it's very easy to follow, very easy to calculate the points...Nutrisystem requires you to buy food, very expensive and the same with jenny craig

Hey I think I may have found your 40 to 50 lbs already!
Heavy Duty exercise and eating less w. v. little beer and booze will do it, it's hard, free and the best.
