Probably bcuz that is when the real you starts to come out. It does take much for a man or a woman to think they have got you where they want you. You learn about your spouse/mate everyday. Think back 2.5 yrs ago, is she the same person she was. Doubt it. Is it better now or later?? Think about it buddy, you will realize you might be better off. A lot of women use it as an excuse when someone new has come in their life.

Did you ask her throughout the 2.5 years period if you were right for each other? I think not taking the initiatives in asking is the main problem. Second, was marriage a long term goal of this relationship? Not having marriage as a clear goal of the relationship is a problem. If marriage is the main goal, then a person may think sooner than later about these issues.

Because it took her a year or two to line up another guy?

Your question suggests the natural cycles of attachment hormones, which scientists are just begining to understand in humans. I've read about research on an oxytocin cycle in couples that on average tends to lead to 3.5 year pair bonds (more than your 2.5 year experience, and much less than the proverbial 7-year itch). A Wikipedia article suggests some of the complexities in this field.

She just wanted a free ride for 2.5 years. The girl could really care less about what you think. As long as she can make you believe you're the love of her life for a while, she can get a free ride until she moves on. You just happened to be the lucky sucker to fall for it.
Women are really good about hiding what they really think and are willing to put up with certain level of things as long as they feel they'll get something out of it in the long run. Hence the reason why women are willing to marry a guy for money; she may not love him as much as she loves his money, but he is worth sleeping with if he has deep pockets.

Sounds to me that for 2.5 years she tried to get you to change into the man she really wants, but finally gave up.

It could be that things have changed over the course of the relationship. It could be that she's just decided to move on. It could be that the woman has found someone more interesting. It could also be that the man's feelings for her are going downhill and she wants out before she gets hurt. It could also be that sex with him is now boring.

They didn't know it right away. Sometimes people divorce after 10 years of marriage. People might grow apart, even if they were right for each other at the beginning.

maybe she didnt know untill 2.5 years went by. most likely it is an excuse to cover up the fact that she no longer has attraction to the guy.

Unfortunately, it takes a long time to "really" get to know someone.....
...after 2.5 years sometimes girls break up cause they think the relationship isn't going anywhere...
..might be time to re-assess and see if she is trying to get you to propose..is my guess!
