Was eating the fruit/food given to man "you are free to eat" a blessing given by God but not something necessary for man to do to sustain life seeing he was made for eternity by God until the fall?

Of course they had to eat. We wouldn't exist if they hadn't eaten the forbidden fruit.
There was no real Adam and Eve, it is a just a story to illustrate an explanation. There would have been no WRITTEN word at the time of the creation of the worlds first two people.
When are people going to realize that the tremendous power that the bible given people throughout the ages is LITERACY. If no other truth, most certainly literacy. Thank Jesus for giving back the right to literacy when the churches were excluding people.

The thing about Adam and Eve is that they were innocent. They didn't know what it meant to be eternal, or to not be eternal. My educated guess is that they did eat, whether it was necessary for life or not. The garden had plenty of food, and there were animals there and they likely ate so Adam and Eve did the same.

God gave all freewill. You can't have free will without a test.Lucifer flunked his test.So he tricked Eve but Adam did it willingly. They thought more about themselves than God and we are paying for it.
Punch Adam in the nose when you get to heaven,it is his fault.

read Genesis. they could eat of everything except the Tree of Knowledge and Eve was deceived by the devil and caused Adam to sin because she was the weaker vessel. It's always the woman.

Adam & Eve's eating forbidden fruit is about as real as Yogi & Boo Boo eating the forbidden picnic basket.
Please educate yourself before it's too late.

Great question. I think they needed to eat but I see your point. It is also mentioned in Revelation. that the new Jerusalem will have food there also.
We have to eat and we are eternal beings also.

Yes I believe they had to eat.
And of course God provided their food.
Remember the problem in the Garden of Eden was not the apple in the tree, it was the pair on the ground.
