Ain't gonna happen -- and shouldn't -- until Tony George is out of the picture.

Well Champ Car isn't going anywhere. Unlike the IRL which rests its entire season on one race. The Champ Car Series has multiple races that make money.
The IRL would be bankrupt if it wasn't for the Indy 500.
Races like the Long Beach Grand Prix have 3 day attendance figures in the 200,000 range, which is why Champ Car will not fold.
The IRL on the other hand, aside from the Indy 500 of course, is a joke.
It is amazing to see 1 race sustain a series, but thats exactly what is going on with the IRL.

Both series have problems.Right now you have OVER half the field in each series that can't compete.Irl will barely have 33 cars for INDY.Only one third of them stand a chance.Look at last years QUAL Times- PATHETIC.They only ran 20 laps before cars started lapping the backmarkers. Both series ARE and will continue to be a really bad joke.Sorry-"love my husband" but IRL just makes me want to scream.2nd rate teams-2nd rate drivers.ChampCar is no better. Some arrogant little FRENCHY is your best driver? Back in the old days (front engines) guys like AJ would've just started kicking their @sses.No wonder NASCAR has become so big.NASCAR is a cancer,it is killing open wheel.

I want two healthy racing series. Champcar used to compete with F1 for tv viewing numbers. The IRL is a joke compared to what Tony George said he was starting the series for. It was supposed to give American oval racers a better shot at getting to the Indy 500. How's that working out? The IRL adding more and more road courses is just disappointing. There is room for two healthy series, but all the ticket buying race fans are going to Nascar events. Sooner or later something is going to give. I am most disappointed in race fans attitudes. Two series means more racing, more teams, more drivers, and more fun! Funny, I never hear anyone complain about A1GP racing taking anything away from F1. Besides, there's enough race tracks to run on for everyone. All Champcar needs is more sponsorship to step up, not to mention fans who want to help build it up, not tear it down.

I agree 100%, but I don't think it will happen. I am a big fan of the IRL, having grown up just a few hundred feet from the speedway, and being involved in open wheel racing for most of my 58 years.
The reason I don't think it will happen, is that the three amigos have way to much money involved in keeping OWS going.

I agree with everything you said but for the death to champcar part. IRL can stay if tony george goes but til then I have to endorse the series that doesn't threaten to take his ball and go home if you don't play the way he wants.

The war is already over because open wheel is aready dead in the US. Neither are making any money and the stands are empty for both.
