Do you believe in dating? I think it's kind of a social mechanism to power the movie, dinner, candy etc. industries. Isn't it really all about finding that special someone, who you can click in with and just enjoy their company right away, instead of having to "test each other out" on dates? I mean think about it. It's rules, it's roles... Wouldn't you much rather just explore this other person, and get to know them in a sincere way, instead of following some kind of script? Just a thought...

by "scripts" I mean all the "does he/she like me" bullsh*t. You know, like having to sit there on a date with your mind racing with "what should I do," instead of really connecting and saying "what can't we do!?" do you understand the difference.? And do we really NEED to rely on dating as the vehical to bring that all out?

my friend just IMd me and said that dating was designed for womem to get free dinners, free gifts, to fill in their time, etc. And that massive industries are built around this concept. AND, that if people stopped dating and started to deeply interact instead, society could collapse finantially. Do you think this also plays a role in it.

Noone said you have to follow scripts. If your potentail date expects you to follow them all - maybe that's not the right date for you.

I go to movies alone or with a bunch of frinds, not necessarily with a date. Going to a movie with a date is rather useless - you think you are spending time together while all you're doing is staring at the screen for 2 hours.

you are kind of correct
think of valentines day
the industry at large makes a fortune on that day, everyone jacks up the rates for everything for what in all pratical purpose's is a female's holiday at the expense of a guy
indeed such social programming by the media and to some degree parents / and or tradition, has taught that men must generally pay for everything in order to socialize with a female,
it's rare to see dutch and dating in the same sentence, yet most women is asked would not give it up ( the free perks ) yet claim to want independance from a guy
the best way to of course avoid all this is not to participate in any or the scripted rituals and just go dutch and keep "dates" simple ( like walks, or non cost events )

I don't believe in dating, because I think is a fake, people just date other people for company and sometimes don't have any feelings for them. So, I think that people should just wait, date who ever u want if u feel a click, but just don't date people because u need company or think that it is a rule to always be dating someone.

A "date" is a set time on a calendar and clock. It is a time you and the person your interested-in, pre-arrange to get to know each other. What is your meaning of "get to know them in a sincere way?"

There is no rule that says a date has to be dinner and a movie.

Dating can be helpful to get to know someone.

I have tended to just get to know people informally instead of formally "dating."

I think it is a matter of personal preference.
