Check with the pension co. They may have a benefit you're not aware of. Social Security May give you $200-250, but funeral expenses are not deductible. Sorry about your loss.

Its the responsibility of whoever organises the funeral to pay for it.
In organising the funeral, you are volunteering to pay.
There is a grant that you can get to help but this only applies if you are on benefits or a very low income. Ask at your local citizens advice bureau, they will be able to advise you whether you can claim anything or not.

I am sorry about the loss of your father...I lost my dad 2 yrs ago and am still mourning his loss.Dunno if its the same situation as my friend had when her husband, our friend, died. He had no savings, they didn't own their own property and were renting, he had been working but she hadn't ...basically there was no money to fund his funeral and she, as his widow, claimed for a grant from the state to fund part of his funeral costs....think they gave her £1,000 of the £2,000 it cost...jeez so expensive....anyways he had got other family but she was still entitled to claim so its a good idea to give it a go....contact your local benefits office for advice. All the best

no.The government won't give you the $255 because it gives only to the spouse not to children. I had the same problem. I was the one who paid for his funeral and there was no one else to claim him. I ended up paying not only for the funeral but for all other expenses related to healthcare.
