Yes there is: In Acts Luke records deacons appointed to minister to the worthy poor, including widows and orphans. These should not be neglected.

Not so certain about serial divorcees, though--they need to get their act together and pick a good Christian husband, not some jigillo from the bar.

They might come under unworthy poor, and the Bible identifies these: "For even when we were with you, this we commanded you, that if any would not work, neither should he eat" (2 Thessalonians 3:10).

Worthy Poor

I don't know about "unworthy poor", but many would say there are people worthy of assistance and people not worthy of assistance. An example of someone who many would consider unworthy of assistance is someone who chooses not to work because they do not want the responsibility and would rather beg for handouts and remain independant. I have known many homeless individuals who live their lives this way.

The worthy poor are married, hard-working folks who go to Church, raise their 12 children Christian, pay their taxes and work 100 hours a week at minimum-wage jobs.

Unworthy poor are insane, welfare-receiving, unemployed, drug or alcohol-addicted, criminals and/or parents out of wedlock.

This dichotomy is crystal clear in the minds of those who have never met a poor person.

No I do not believe in a worthy or unworthy anything. Nobody is worthy of GOD's grace yet we have it.

There are those who work and can't get ahead or struggle to make ends meet without living frivolous lives; and there are those who don't even try, expect handouts or live frivilously and expect others to support their lifestyle. I've met both kinds.
