Are you paying that all by yourself? If your rent is $1850 alone, it should be no more than 30% of your income. You would need to be bringing in approximately $5600 per month AFTER taxes to live comfortably. That's for most people anyway, I live on a lot less and live here for $1650 a month. It also depends on your lifestyle. Do you have a car? Do y ou like to go out for 2 meals a day? Do you insist on a $4 cup of coffee twice a day? Do you use cabs or subways to get around? Do you have a lo of credit card payments? So many things would factor in on your comfort of lifestlye... email me if you have any other questions! Welcome to the city! You will find that your rent is WORTH EVERY penny! Enjoy! :)

You must earn between 56-60k to live modestly. This amount must be considered AFTER taxes. Now, talking about food... you won't be able to go out that much so be prepared to cook once or twice a week. Having lunch outside in the city is also very expensive but papaya dog's recession menu can be a good option every once in a while. All in all, it is a great experience, it is totally worth it!! Good luck with your search and enjoy the City!!

If your are planning to live in Manhattan you better either be a model, superstar, producer, actress, big shot attorney, wall street mogul, for profit business with about a half million dollar revenue after taxes. Basically, if you want to live here money better seriously be growing in your back yard! Than again if you live with someone, the same applies to them. Hope you have a nice job and welcome to Manhattan!

Kick is right. To actually be able to have a "life" and not be living on Ramen noodles, you should be looking at grossing $90K or more, unless you have a roommate or two.
