A very dear friend of mine converted from Christianity ot atheism while using this site. It, of course, wasn't the only influence, but the people on here help her a lot in that process.
I haven't changed, but I've learned a lot. Having been raised in an atheistic country, Y!A has taught me a lot about Christianity. Bad things, but most definetely also good things.

I came here over a year ago to try to find some answers as an agnostic. The person who made me choose to become an atheist was a Christian regular here. She said horrible things under the guise of Christian moraIity. I simply decided I didn't want to be associated with people who thought and spoke the way she did. And it wasn't just her - I see it all the time in my own life too. I don't think I'm less tolerant of people's views. I've always been able to see both sides of an argument. I am not trying to convert anyone to my way of thinking. People are free to think and believe whatever they want. I just don't want to have morality dictated to me.

Religious change is rarely the result of one argument, at least not real change.
When I deconverted from Christianity, it was over many years and took a lot of introspection and study. However, I did talk to other people and much of this was on bulletin board systems. (BTW, a BBS is a discussion board that predates the Internet. I've been an atheist for over 20 years.)

Although there has been no chnage since I have been on this site, ( haven't been here too long) my ideas about god and spirituality are ever changing. I think as you really think about things, and analyze them and grow, and have life experiences you are inevitably going to have new ideas and I think that is a good thing. I think listening to others ideas is a good tool for thinking about spirituality, but I do not think silent and accepting blind faith is good. Listen, respect, and rely on your own mind and soul for truth.

I think it has made my faith stronger. I am a Christian. I used to belong to a prayer group and often times we prayed for the needs of the world. Often times prayed that many people would come to a saving relationship with Christ. In that group those types of people were vague to me. Coming here I see you, the ones who don't know Jesus. It makes me care more because I see the personality of those who don't know God. I could never leave my faith in Christ, it has been my rock and my peace, my Good Shepherd. He loves you all.

I have become more tolerant of people who show tolerance and less tolerant of those who choose to not be tolerant.
I view this as an entertaining diversion and an opportunity to learn about the former and to p'ss off the latter.

I remain a Humanist and Unitarian Universalist. Then again, I'm not here to convert anyone or looking to be converted. I'm here to gain a better understanding of how people from a variety of backgrounds view religious and spiritual matters and share my own experiences and opinions.

Mostly I have learned how mixed up people are and how people who have never read the Bible or taken a college level class in evolution can try to pass themselves off as experts in science and theology.
