My uncle is into things like contacting ghosts and stuff and for my birthday he got me a book called Developing your Psychic powers. It freaks me out. He didn't give me a reciet so I couldn't return it and has been calling me asking if I've read it yet. Should I tell him I don't like and ask to return it? Or would that be rude?

I don't think it would be rude to tell your uncle that you are just not into that sort of thing and ask him where he got the book so that you could exchange it for something else. You may also want to say something to your Mother or Father about what is going on as well.

Sometimes we can unintentionally give the impression that we are interested in something when actually all we are trying to do is to be polite and listen to what someone else has to say. He may think that you are interested in ghosts and paranormal phenomena. Either that or he is trying to get you interested in it. So you would actually be doing both of you a favor, by setting him straight. If nothing else, you will at least be avoiding years of unusable birthday gifts

Actually having a book to develop your inner ESP feelings is a good thing and not a bad thing at all.

There are times we get signals that tell us, don't go that way but we don't know why. Then when we ignore the signal, we either end up in a traffic jam or have car problems or some off beat problem.

Read it with an open mind as your Uncle just might be sensing something within you that he sees or feels.

It really depends on how close you & your uncle are. Obviously he wasn't aware of your likes & dislikes in this particular matter!! If he is an understand person, just tell him you enjoy reading, but just not on the subject he choose for you. OR, if you know where he got the book, maybe you could contact them yourself, tell them the situation, & see if they would return it for something that would be of interest to you. I don't know the policy on returning books, but I'm sure by looking at it, it would look like it hasn't been opened or read. Honestly it isn't a common subject that everyone would be interested in, & like I said, depending on your uncle would be the answer as to how to handle the situation. I'd rather give someone something I KNEW they enjoyed, so it wouldn't bother me. If he's like that, I'm sure he'd understand.

Telling him you don't like the present might be a little rude. Why don't you just give the present to someone else as a present, or just a random gift? (Be sure not to give it to someone who knows your uncle and might tell him) If you can't find someone to give it to, just tell your uncle politely that you're not really into psychic stuff. Don't ask him to get you something else, just inform him so that next time he will get you something better. And to make sure, next time your b-day comes around or some other holiday, tell him specifically what you want.

I think you should tell him the truth and tell him it freaks you out. Lots of people get uneasy around psychic and ghost stuff. Books like that could be paths for spirits to contact you so you better get rid of it! If you don't want it and he doesn't want it back either, throw it away or donate it to a local library or something. He'll understand!

It would be rude to ask him to return it and that you don't like it. I'd just tell him that you tried to read it because you know it interests him, but that it just isn't your thing. And make sure to thank him for thinking of you... maybe suggest some other books the two of you could read together. That way he knows that you're not blowing him off... but that your interests lie in other places.

I would just tell him thank you for the book and let him know you don't think you have any psychic powers to develop.

You can start reading the book and later say that you don't have time to continue because of work or school so it's going to be done deal....

I think it's weird that your uncle keeps calling you about it. Yu poor thing. I would just throw it away and tell your mom/dad to make your uncle leave you alone about it.

If he's your uncle, he should know things like that don't interest you. Tell him... let him know you're really not into things like that and ask if you can exchange it for something you would like. If he cares, he may be able to get you an exchange reciept or something....
