"Do not think that I came to bring peace on the earth; I did not come to bring peace, but a sword. For I came to set a man against his father, and a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law; and a man’s enemies will be the members of his household. He who loves father or mother more than Me is not worthy of Me; and he who loves son or daughter more than Me is not worthy of Me. And he who does not take his cross and follow after Me is not worthy of Me. He who has found his life will lose it, and he who has lost his life for My sake will find it." (Matthew 10:34-39 NASB)

" 49 I have come to cast fire upon the earth; and how I wish it were already kindled! 50 But I have a baptism* to undergo, and how distressed I am until it is accomplished! 51 Do you suppose that I came to grant peace on earth? I tell you, no, but rather division; 52 for from now on five members in one household will be divided, three against two and two against three. 53 They will be divided, father* against son and son against father, mother against daughter and daughter against mother, mother-in-law against daughter-in-law and daughter-in-law against mother-in-law. (Luke 12:49-53)

"If anyone comes to Me, and does not hate his own father and mother and wife and children and brothers and sisters, yes, and even his own life, he cannot be My disciple." (Luke 14:26)

He was talking in parables. He didn't mean these things literally! he means that the road for them who believe in him and follow him, will not be all roses. It won't be easy. He means that because of him, many will be persecuted by people of their own family..... If you deny what he did on the cross for you and not follow him, you will not find eternal life. By dying at tht cross, he made it possible for all sins to be forgiven...can you not sin for a whole day? IMMPOSSIBLE...but when you believe and follow that cross, you are saying someone paid for what i've done so i can have another chance...do u think it's easy to follow him? never...i've heard of families who wanted to KILL their children for wanting to be Christian...he knew this would happen before it ever happened! May God open your eyes to his truth before it's to late.and remember, it was Jesus who taught that when a person slaps you on one cheek, turn the other..he said not to over come evil with evil and saved the sinful woman from being stoned to death by saying those of you who are sinful cast the first stone..it was JESUS who said love your enemy and bless those who curse you!

The only similarities between Manson and Jesus were that they are men. The major differences? Jesus is God, Manson is a sinner.

Charles Manson incited murder; Jesus incites love of God and your fellow man.

But, following Jesus is an all or nothing proposition. When someone follows Christ, they are subject to ridicule, and even disowned by their families.

Jesus expects us to have our priorities right. Jesus first, family second, friends, work, and hobbies in descending order after that.

How these passages make me feel is of very little importance. What matters is the truth. I suppose every true Christian knows exactly what Jesus is talking about, and when one embraces the message of Jesus Christ and recovers himself from the power of Satan, he automatically makes himself an enemy of the world. Everyone starts out as an enemy of God, not by God's doing, but by reason of their own transgression; and when we become reconciled to God through faith in Christ, those who are still in darkness feel alienated from us.
I thank God, enemies can be won to the truth.

Your right---it does sound like a cult leader---but no doubt you'll be accused of taking it all out of context --it's the only defense Christians have against being shown what is actually in the Bible.

Let's say you were a Christian. Then your father says" If you don't renounce Jesus, you are out of the will,no money for you!"
You have to make a choice.Luckily ,Peter's wife agreed with him.I believe Paul's wife probably left him when he became a Christian.
You love God or you love the world,it's your choice.

Christians often say this stuff means that there has to be nobody first in priorities but god himself. It sounds like a rather poor word choice to say the things said.

It's truth. People can't handle the truth. I know this firsthand. I got saved 2 years ago and it made my Dad uncomfortable. I can know longer say that your belief is right, there can only be one truth, not two truths.

Hates his own children & his own life?

Great words of wisdom to live by.

Of course, you are taking it out of context, as you well know.

Praise Jehovah! What a guy!

Makes me think that it is Jesus or nothing and I will choose Jesus
No need to be scared, it is about following Jesus and it has nothing to do with killing or blowing people up, but the priority of putting God first in all things.
No reason at all for fear, Jesus commanded to love your enemies and do good to them.
