It just makes him a scapegoat. It's a concept that has been pretty much phased out of society in modern times. However, in those days, it was perfectly acceptable to punish someone on the behalf of another. It was done with kings all the time.

I agree. It doesn't really make sense now.

"just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many."
Matthew 20:28
it says in the Bible:
"And Jesus cried out again with a loud voice, and yielded up His spirit. Then behold, the viel of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom; and the earth quaked, and the rocks were split,
and the graves were opened; and many bodies of the saints who had fallen asleep were raised;
and coming out of the graves after His resurrection, they went into the holy city and appeared to many." Matt. 27:50-53

This verse says that Jesus died for us voluntarily. this next part is quoted from the Orthodox Study Bible: "the veil or curtain that separated the Most Holy Place from the rest of the temple was a symbol of the separation between God and man. Christ's death opens the way into the presence of God for all people. Because His flesh, the true veil (Heb.10:20), is dishonored , the figurative veil of the temple is torn in two. The rocks were split, because He is the "spiritual Rock" (1 Cor.10"4). AND "Jesus endures the weakness of our body in His own body on the Cross to take upon Himself our sufferings. This He does by the reality of the union of His divine nature and human nature in the One Son of God. His humanity is indeed our very humanity. He endures pain, is struck, tortured and crucified: He is wounded on account of our sins (Is.53:5). And though He has no sin, He Himself was made to be sin for us (read that sentence again slowly), that through His flesh He might condemn sin in the flesh (Rom. 8:3; 2 Cor. 5:21; Heb. 2.9)"
and there is so much more to say.
He died for everyones sins. Even yours.
Even if you choose not to believe, He still died for you.
and if you choose to believe, You will inherit eternal life-He is the way, the truth, and the life. There is no way to the Father except through Him.
think about this
God bless.

It is stipulated that mankind is a sinful species, and to save us from our vice, he died upon the cross so that You, and I, and everyone else who ever lived could go to heaven, since we didn't stand up to Gods standards. Why he didn't just make us right in the first place if thats the case I don't know, but thats how the Bible tells it.

ok so you reject the words of Jesus and the prophecies that say he would come and die for our sins and offer to be our best friend = Isaiah 52:13-53:12 and Revelation 3:19&20 I love you and knock on your heart door to come in and forgive your sins and be your friend.

I am born Jewish and taught to reject Jesus, but I studied and saw his love now he is my savior and best friend-and he already died for all sins-wether you agree or not -as promised and he said so too

ok, try to imagine you have gotten into debt beyond calculation. And someone comes along and pays your debt, with the catch being that to pay him back you have to follow there rules, and live as they ask you to. Thats basically how the atonement works. The price of sins is the death of the soul. Jesus's passion and death paid the price for us, but it only counts if we accept him and the deal that comes with it.

Actually, he did die for your sins too. In Judaism, EVERY time someone sinned, they had to sacrifice an animal to God. Jesus was the final sacrifice, so our sins aren't added up in the end. All we need is faith and to have repented.
