Nobody will hate you. You have the advantage of knowing the language and most importantly experience of the military with the British Army. It may be a good idea as suggested to read "The Naked Soldier" first. Its not a bad read and fairly accurate to what I went through.

Just dont forget, its the Foreign Legion. If you start to compare it to the British Army, you'll be making a big mistake. Its very different and at times will piss you off. If you embrace it for what it is you will have a great experience.

They may speak French, but we never considered ourselves French and in fact were told that we were seperate from the rest of the L'Armee Francais by our officers.

Do it for yourself, not anyone else.

I understand if you join the French Foreign Legion, your linguistic skills may not be necessary as the only people who can't join the Legion are murderers (now) and... the French!

You may like to read the book 'The Naked Soldier' by Tony Sloane or 'Legionnaire: The Real Life Story of an Englishman in the French Foreign Legion by Simon Murray' before you make your decision.

(One question is, why (especially with language skills) you don't just go back into the British Forces (or UN)? Or isn't that allowed?)

Plenty of Brits including former serving soldiers have joined the Legion. I have a friend who did that back in the 1950s and was in Algiers with the Legion. Don't even ask what went on. You probably know anyway.

The Legion is rock hard - be prepared for that. You'll be expected to obey without question at all times and hit the enemy hard so they are killed dead.

I suppose you mean Legion D`Etranger and not the British Legion LOL ?
Contrary to early posts there is little likelihood of "French" troops fighting against British again before the World ends as the French haven`t had an Army that could fight it`s way out of a WET paper bag for nearly two centuries.
Admittedly their "best" ARE The Legion but as the name says the compliment is FOREIGN.

Hardly suspect they would care. Besides, the legion has a great history and reputation to equal some of the finest units in the British Army.

There is no treason when you join the Legion because Britain is not at war with France but the British people might have a negative opinion against you for being unpatriotic.
