I absolutely can't eat breakfast. I don't have time and when I do I always throw up. I just hate eating before like 9:00 AM and I would have to eat by 6:30 because of the time I leave. I like to exercise in the afternoon but I'm either too hungry or I just ate and my stomach hurts (I'm not sure if this is because of not eating breakfast). Keep in mind I go to junior high so I can't prepare fancy hot lunches or anything. So how should I eat throughout the day to give me a balanced diet? Thanks!

Many people have a hard time with breakfast. Here is a little bit of info that many help you. When you wake up in the morning, your body has been without food anywhere from 6-8 hours. During the day, most people eat food, or meals, anywhere from every 2-4 hours.

When you wake up, your are "breaking your fast" from your night's rest. Knowing that, it is understandable that many people are not able to eat a large breakfast in the morning.

So, a good way to get your body in gear, and ready for the day, would be to eat some kind of whole grain bread (toast), with some fresh fruit, or juice. Then, when you are feeling a bit more hungry, you could have a sandwich (turkey and cheese on wheat, or the standard PB&J).

Let your body guide you, and always discuss diet changes with your medical professional.

It is very possible to have a healthy diet without eating breakfast. I've done it for years because I absolutely cannot eat first thing in the morning. However, if you're getting up at 6a.m. and not eating until lunchtime, that's not really good for your body. Can you take a piece of fruit, some crackers and peanut butter (not the kind with transfats), a banana, some string cheese, low fat breakfast bar or something easy to eat and have it in the middle of the morning?
You don't need to have a hot lunch. You can have protein, fruit, whole grain bread and some skim or 1% milk and that will be healthy. Just make sure you wait an hour after eating to exercise if you get a stomach ache.

People get hung up on the 3 meals-a-day kick, but in reality we should be eating 5-6 small meals a day to get all the nutrients we need and to keep our blood glucose on an even level. So if you have healthful snacks, and a couple full meals in your day, you should do just fine. Don't look at your watch; listen to your body and have good foods available.

**And for the record, I'm not fat and never have been (5'2" 110#), and I rarely eat breakfast. There are other ways of getting your metabolism going besides eating.

No and here is why, the first meal of the day is what sets your metabolism for the WHOLE day. If you start out the day by sending your metabolism the message that there is no food, it slows down to conserve calories. What you need to do is start the day with a good high protein breakfast, get that metabolism up and running, and the whole day your mental and physical condition will run much better as will your diet.

One thing you might want to do, is sit down one night, kind of make a list of things you COULD eat that dont require preparation, and see if it is WHAT you are eating so early in the morning that is making you sick. You might want to eat a light breakfast kind of like we do here in germany, Some slices of cheese, some thin sliced ham or other cold cuts, a nice glass of orange juice or Grape juice, natural not sweetened) maybe a hard boiled egg, or a grapefruit half, a couple olives, a handful of almonds, you would be surprised what can pack some real energy for you that is pretty much easy on the stomache. A couple almonds alone giv you some nice protein, So does a slice of cheese and some sliced roast beef. It really could be that you just dont like Breakfast foods. Maybe eat a tuna sandwhich or a turkey breast sandwhich.

No you don't have to eat breakfast to have a healthy diet. But if you throw up when youeat early, that isn't normal. You could have high stress, anxiety or some other health problem. You should have a check-up and have this checked out. Your stomach hurting in the afternoon confirms that you really do need a check-up. The best way for anyone to eat is to have a number of small meals all day long. That way your body is always getting nurished and you aren't stuffing yourself and overloading your system.

Your body is your best indicator of when you should eat. You should not force food on your body if it makes you feel ill. If you can eat a snack after 9:00 that tides you over until lunch, you should carry something with you that doesn't require preparation or refrigeration. The Atkins New Diet Revolution taught me what a healthy diet is. I never understood nutrition until I tried his diet. The book is available on the Internet, but no longer sold in stores. I learned to like foods that are good in nutrition and to stop eating foods that made me feel ill.

Technically it is recommended to eat breakfast in the morning to kick start your metabolism to help you burn more calories. On the other hand if you are at a healthy weight and do not feel tired during the day or extremly hugry then you should be fine if you absolutly cannot get anything down in the morning.

You can have a healthy diet without eating breakfast but you can not be as lean as you could be without it, plain and simple.

Depending on your body type, after 6-10 hours your body will be in starvation mode, which means it will burn LESS FAT than it could.

If you don't have breakfast your body will be even LESS ABLE TO BURN FAT.

It's up to you to decide whether to be disciplined, eat breakfast and be leaner or follow your unhealthy inclinations, don't eat breakfast and be fatter. Just remember it's your choice.

No. When you wake up, you are already in starvation mode. Going longer without eating will put you even deeper into starvation mode and slow your metabolism even further.
