Maybe she was real hot. Maybe he loved her. Maybe he realized, being a student of biology, that the chances of genetic defects in their offspring, though somewhat higher than average, were still pretty low. Maybe he lived in a society that accepted marriage between cousins. Maybe he lived in a country, which like almost every country in the world except the USA, considered cousin marriage to be OK.

I don't know that he did marry his first cousin, but if he did it has nothing to do with evolution. In many countries cousins are allowed to marry. So whats your point.
