This is the party that isn't really for the child. It is for you and the family. Invite only family. Have two cakes one for guests and a cake just for your darling daughter and just visit with the family. Take lots of pictures and ease up and let it be a relaxed event. You can panic and have huge over the top parties when she is older and knows what is going on. I wouldn't start that yet. She doesn't even know what a birthday is or when hers is or anything about it. Relax it will be fine. -k-

Our son will be one on the 27th of this month :) We reserved part of the city playground park. Previous answerer is very correct, at this age the party IS for mom and dad. If you are only having a very few select peopel maybe try a petting zoo. That WAS our preference but I can't afford to take 35 people to the petting zoo and the park is free. PLUS I donjt have to come up with games for the older kids!

1 year old (along with next year) - mostly the party is for you - invite family and your friends since the child won't know what is going on. Try to plan it for after a nap where the child may not be as cranky.
We got our son his own "Smash" cake - which is basically just a small individual cake that the kid can smash & eat with their fingers. (make sure you put them in an outfit that can get messy). We then got a "cookie cake" for everyone else.. since in our family, we seem to always have birthday parties w/ cake - so we wanted to be a little different with a cookie cake.

make it completely simple!!! I wasted 3k on a party and my daughter wasnt old enough to understand the fun about it. Just keep it simple with a home party. Buffet style and cake. Save the fun crazy parties for when she's 5 years old.

I just had my family and friends get together and have cake and little smokies and cheese dip and small appetizers like that. Then we just opened presents and the normal kid party stuff. Please if you want a memorable party get your baby his or her own individual cake like the 5 inch cake. Walmart gives babies their own free on their first birthday with the purchase of another cake. It is the cutest thing I have ever seen to have my son dig into the cake with his hands it is awesome and unforgettable.

the first party is very special for the child and parents. i think just keeping it simple by inviting all the family and friends as far as the decor of the party. most of the time whats in style works, like if its a girl, barbie, boy a super hero. or just have cookout..

Keep it small. The first birthday is really for you she wont remember it so take lots of pictures and dont over work yourself. Enjoy the fact at you survived all the sleepless nights of making bottles and changing diapers. Soon you will forget all about that and be working on potty traing and ABC's .

Free cake from walmart for first birthdays. Same from the weis store. Then you have to make sure to videotape her pawing her first birthday cake all over her dress, face, and a little bit in her mouth too.

Just keep it simple with close friends and family. I had a cake for friends and I made a cake solely for my kids on their first birthday. I put them in a highchair (in their diaper only) , put the cake in front of them and let them go for it. Too much fun! For them and for the rest of us. Very messy, but so worth it!
