"I have my reasons and I don't want to talk about it anymore." That's all you have to say. Don't let rude people corner you into saying things you don't want to.

It is hard to do without sounding rude. But then to keep pressing you for an answer is also rude.
I would just look at them or a second or two, maybe raise an eyebrow, and then change the subject. You don't have to explain yourself.

I would respond with, "If I had wanted you to know I would have told you." Even to a friend - good or not. If they're going to be nosy feel free to be blunt.

Tell them that's YOUR business, not theirs. Then end the discussion. Walk away or hang up the phone. They'll tale the hint that you don't want to talk about it anymore.

I have better luck saying, "I am not comfortable sharing that." I know it sounds "snooty," but who cares, the other person is being nosy.
