Instead of timing a whole race you need to time your split. For example in a 2 mile you could try to do every 1/4 mile in 90 seconds. That would be a 12 minute 2 mile. If you don't do the first lap in 90 seconds speed up.

A good time would be 14:29 on the 2 miles, and 6:40 on the mile since that would be improvement from your previous best. Try to get a better time every meet and work hard in practice. Since your times aren't world record or anything you can improve them a lot and it won't take as much time as it would for someone who ran a 4:30 mile to improve.

If there is anyone you want to beat, use them as motivation to push yourself. Personally, I try to beat everyone who is running in the same pack I am, since they are probably about the same level as me. Just set goals and find rivals that will force you to run your hardest.

RELAX, I almost literally let my brain fall asleep during my 1600 and 3200 until the last 600 meters and let my muscle memory kick in. If I were you, I'd shoot for that 6:06 and maybe 14:29 in the 2 mile. If you're getting passed, think of it this way. You're ahead and about to lap the others but they slip away. You're King/Queen of the world. For mental inspiration when I get tired, I like to look at my muscles, arms, chest, quads, and think "Man, I'm strong. Stronger than those guys" Stay relaxed! No pressure!

What's the world record?

Shoot for that! 8:36 is the American High School Record set in 1979.
