its the imperfect of the indicative (imperfect past tense)... i dont really know what that means in english... it just is : )
for ar verbs... aba, abas, aba, abamos, aban (with an accent on the a in the abamos ending)
for er/ir verbs... ia, ias, ia, iamos, ian (with accents on all the i's in the endings)
