I think that from a christian perspective, not only is everyone and everything out to attack their god, but them as well.

Mythology has detrimental connotations, and is in many cases used to insult countless religions. Very seldom is the observe mythology used in a flattering way. to a pair atheists the observe mythology is synonymous for crap. that's probable why some Christians get protecting. Edit: No, i do no longer think of there's a vogue around it. it may require all atheists to quit utilising the observe in a detrimental way (no longer asserting all atheists do use it in a detrimental way; in simple terms asserting that all and sundry can shouldn't use it in a detrimental way), and all Christians to quit assuming the worst. regrettably, anybody is what they are.

Because ignorance that comes wrapped up in the guise of a "serious question" always deserves nothing but the most hostile ridicule. So does the ignoramus who ask's it.

Maybe we are afraid that we might not know the answer to the question. *Gasp* what if their question actually caused us to doubt out own faith or have to open our minds to another belief. Many would feel that that can not be tolerated. I am for answering any question that I feel I know the answer to. I am also for an open mind and tolerance. Not all are. What a pity.

I wouldn't consider "why are Christians so stupid" to be a serious question, would you?
For some reason, at least today, most of the questions I've seen from atheists seem to be of that type.

They have a lot invested in their belief and don't want anything to challenge their faith. If their god is proven to be false, then they've been fools all this time. Also, their religion tells them not to question it, it is the single source for all truth. Reality and biblical truth do not always go hand in hand, but for them, it has to (or they imagine their god will be mad at them).

Maybe some do. Also sometimes questions are asked with an accusation in them about a person's religion.
