to lose 35lbs in a healthy way would be around 2 pounds per week. like what the others have mentioned. by losing weight this way, you'll unlikely to gain weight faster. the slower it takes you to lose weight, the better the chances of you reaching your targetted weight and maintaining it. pounds will shed off for the first few weeks but if you don't watch what you eat, even though your weight decreases, your fat % might increase and that will make your weight shoot up again. so watch what you eat, avoid fatty foods, especially fast food, deep fried, junk foods and try avoiding drinking carbonated drinks. it contains alot of sugar and sugar is bad for health. it has highest glycemix index. be aware of hidden sugar in meals or food that you buy from outside. so its better if you can cook for yourself. so that you know what you're eating and watch what you're eating. eat at the right time. 5 small meals a day. eat fruits when you feel like munching and if u happen to crave for something sweet like chocolate , you can have a bite. thats it. A bite or two. just to satisfy your cravings. and you must sleep at the right time too. staying up late will only make you feel hungry out of nowhere. you'll tend to eat and have suppers. suppers are not included in the 5 meals. and to go on carb diet, after 7pm, no carbs. after 10pm, no food no eating at all. if you happen to get hungry after 10pm, get yourself a glass/ cup of warm low fat milk. doing cardio exercise helps in the process of losing weight. fat would turn into muscles. so if you happen to do cardio work out and weight training, after some time, you'll find out that your weight doesnt decrease and your fat % goes down, that means your fat turns to muscle. the reason being your weight doesnt go down is because your fat is replaced by muscle tissue's weight. so don't worry if you didnt have a decrease in weight. after a while, if your fat % drops, your pounds will eventually follow. bear in mind, weight is not really the issue if you wanna be and stay healthy. its the body fat % that will determine you'll lose or gain weight. you can try finding out more information about your ideal fat % for your body on the net. gd luck ^^ if i can do it, you can too! :) i weighed 260lbs last year. i've lost about 60lbs so far =) you can do it! and don't forget self discpline is very important~

Yes, the guideline is 2 pounds per week, but you can probably lose it a bit faster than that and still be healthy. Usually in the beginning of a new diet regime, weight will come off a bit faster. If you really cut your white refined products almost completely and stick with fruits and vegetables with some good lean proteins at each meal...you will lose it fast. Start doing some walking or other activity that you enjoy and it will come off even faster. You could probably lose the 35 pounds in 2.5-3 months (about 10 pounds per month is still really healthy, plus a bit extra maybe in the first month)....I know, I'm working on that right now myself.

it is healthy to lose 1-2lbs a week so 35 lbs you could lose in 4-8 months.
find calorie/fitness calculator on the net, enter your stats and it will tell you how many calories a day you need to maintain your weight. take 300-400calories off that number and that's how much you need to lose weight.
eat 5-6 small meals a day instead of 3 big ones.
5-8 servings of fruit and vegetables a day.
8 glasses of water a day.
4-6 times a week cardio work out for 30-50min plus light weight training.
no junk food, no sodas, no white flour (white bread, pasta, cookies, cakes etc)

17 to 35 weeks if all goes fine.
Usually, and because we all are different, it takes a little longer... one has to learn what his/her body is responsive to and not to.
Remember that, however you do it, you will need to:
1) do some form of cardio (read: running, or elliptics)
2) eat smart (read: low glycaemic index food)
3) eat less (read: reduce portions)
4) eat more frequently (read: enhance meal number to speed metabolism up)
5) drink a lot of water (to melt the fat)
6) eat at least 3 skim dairy servings (or fortified soy milk, or fortified fruit juice) in order to get all the calcium you need (calcium is required to melt the fat)
7) eat all the essential fatty acids you need (read: omega3 supplementation or diet rich in omega3s food like fish, organic food and soy)

You want to aim for 2 pounds a week ... faster than two pounds per week is too fast. Yes, your body can lose more than 2 lbs each week but it cannot lose more than 2 lbs of FAT each week. The slower you lose it the more likely you are to keep it off.

If you devoted most of your time to it, it could take you 2-3 months, however this includes both eating really well and spending a lot of time exercising.

I would say six to eight months. The loss varies though from person to person and you could lose it faster than what I estimated. It took me ten months to lose 100Ibs.
