Perhaps nothing created the universe, or more accurately the power of nothing created the universe.
You know the way we can produce huge amounts of energy from what appears to be nothing, an atom, sub atomic particles, hadrons and quarks and all that stuff. Well obviously all that nothing that you see, or don't see to be accurate, has the potential to easily create the the amounts of energy that started the ball rolling in the first place.
Therefore god is nothing and/or nothing is god. We came from nothing and we will return to nothing.
The only reason we have this big story about god and jesus and all that is because people cannot handle the fact that when we "shuffle off this mortal coil" we cease to exist. Full stop, finito end. No afterlife, no heaven, this is hell, no purgatory...nothing, and of course governments can't have us believing that there is nothing after death because we will want to spend all our time enjoying our short little lives and won't want to be working 5 days a week for the man.
Hippies have it sussed, they worked it all out years ago that's why they get such bad press. We should all become hippies and let the capitalists run their own factories and do their own paper work and we can all run around in the forests enjoying our short little lives.

"someone or something created the universe"- sez who?
Why would you assume that an agency has to be responsible for everything that happens? No-one and nothing 'creates' virtual particles, yet they pop into existence constantly. The air between your eyes and screen is full of 'em.
Their sudden coming into existence is a property of the ground substance of the universe. Similarly, the simplest explanation for the presence of the universe itself is that Nothing is unstable, and may decay into Something.
There's no need to postulate such a hideously unlikely entity as a supernatural universe-creating deity to explain a natural event - just as you don't need such an entity to prevent the sky from falling or the appearance of rainbows.
Doing so is anthropocentrism gorn maaad.

Why do you say you are an atheist, and then go on about gods? There are no gods, no creator or creators. You have not really asked a question, this is garbled rubbish. You are not presenting yourself as an atheist, but rather as someone who believes there is a god, but is angry with that god.
I hope you stop being confused soon.

No. god has other connotations. When you say god people assume you mean the big man on a cloud with a beard from christianity. There is of course the cyclic universe where there are repeated big crunches and big bangs with no beginning. But if you want to think that the universe has a beginning that had a natural cause name that cause something else than god. If you think that there is an intelligent creator who created everything then left it, that's deism not atheism. Say no to jesus.

I don't necessarily believe there is a Creator as you or many would theorize. I believe that we are all connected by energy and there is an energy to the Universe that is always trying to balance out. Something dies - something is born. Night - day.
This is why there is "good" and "bad". It's all trying to balance out though you are correct humans play a large role in the balance.

I think I may have missed the point.
I do agree, the universe did not just appear out of nowhere. It had to be created. That would mean it had to have a Creator. That Creator is God.
Nope, you can't argue with that!!

You tell us that there is a creator of the universe, and in the next sentence you tell us your an Atheist. This doesn't make sense.

If you choose to call whatever happened to cause the universe to come into existance "god" (including unconcious processes), yes, there is a god. However, this doesn't support the existance of a concious god.
