Whenever a person mentions something in their book. They do not know their own book?

Eartha Q: Have you ever watched those fools on T.V. That is where bible thumpers come from. And it extends to all the people who try to shove that book down our throats.

Are you saying everyone you do not agree with should be silenced? That is the way Hitler thought. How about I start a campaign to silence all christians who demand I think as they do? Would that be okay?

Painter: What was I trying to do? Get those who are always saying the rest of are going to hell to take a closer look at themselves. From the answers I get from christians here looks like it would be easier to open the vault at Ft. Knox than open their minds.

So it would seem. I sometimes wish most Christians were a little bit better informed.

some people want to make a big deal about this sentence or that sentance as if god had it all riding on a string of 5 words. Few know the book word for word.

1. they want the exact qoute so they can argue it's proper interpretation

2. they wish to double check to make sure you're not just making stuff up as people have been known to do.

I don't believe anyone should be thumping the bible nor should they be using it to try and convinvce you of anything.

It has become a competition too, you both grasp at air and slip through cracks trying to force your views on others. Yes, it goes both ways, what exactly did you think you were doing here?

Good question I am familiar with what you say. I think it could well be said that proof text is needed on both sides. Scripture give out of context has not meaning to all arguments. If you are discussing a point use scripture relative to that event. Don't just say the bible says..
can I give you a meaningful example--light hearted?

question: A man rob a bank and he did it because the scripture said so. "go and do thou likewise" does the scriptures teach this?

answer: The man applied hermeneutics erroneously

That is why we ask for the scripture to be identified. If I said science says you would say who, what, why, where when and how. This would be justifiable for you to ask

Do you have a link for that?

I think we can be guilty of generaliztions. It might be possible that anyone that refers to the Bible is categorized as a Bible thumper to quickly.
I do know there are people who will take verses out of the Bible and use them like a sledgehammer.

you do no longer would desire to transform or something like that, basically hit upon a Pagan direction on your liking and are available precise on in. Paganism is quite own and you will possibly have your person own ideals with regards to the divine and nature, in assessment to different religions with mounted dogma. Paganism has an openness and freedom of ideals approximately it that makes me very proud to be Pagan.

If you are going to question or comment on a particular passage, I want to know which one it is so I know we are discussing the same one. It's that whole accountability thing. When I was a pastor, I always gave the chapter and verse of the scripture I was using as well as which translation I was using. I expected my members to look it up on their own and to call me out if they thought I was mis-quoting. Of course, I expected them to be able back up their view with scripture if they disagreed with me.

Don't you guys ever get tired of asking such ridiculous questions? I never ask for links but I will admit that I do not know the Bible all that well. read it completely about 3 three times many years ago, and don't need Bible quotes to support my being a Christian.

Hello Ray T.. :)

When my fellow Christians ask for a link..it usually has to do with someone misquoting scripture..so they are just asking where they found it in the Bible..

It has nothing to do with us not knowing the Bible.. :)

That's when you correct them with YOUR superior knowledge of THEIR own book. A good study bible with a concordance comes in handy for these occasions. ;-)

It's too bad you don't have anything like the Bible to give you hope. Maybe we ask for links because we want you to actually READ what it is you are gripping about.
