I've picked the Derby a couple of times. Last year I think it was, I got first and second!! You have to know your horses. Look at the alertness of the horse, it's eagerness. But it can't be "prancy" Watch the warm up walks. The smoother the strides, the better. Check for a well muscled hindquarter and large chested (Bigger lungs and heart). I know these things sound strange, but they work. Also, look for a horse with it's tail slightly lifted. (Not to poop) But it usually means that it enjoys what it is doing. There are horses that are born to run and live and breathe it, and then there are fast horses that are made to run. Find the first, and you have a winner. I don't know about the online programs, I'm sorry I can't help with that, but I've grown up my whole life around horses and my parents currently raise Quarters for show, and barrels.

If there was a sure way, what would they need YOU for?
Now, assuming the mob WASN'T fixing the races, if you had all the data on the horses, all their times from all their starting positions, and assuming environmental factors like food and sleep were constants, and the same jockeys had the same strategy every single time, you might be able to extrapolate a winner from all that data more than half of the time.
It's like stock - if you have enough data on the stock AND on the environment in which the stock trades, you can often pick a winner. Now I don't bet on horses, but as a former stock broker I know that it is possible, but requires a great deal of time and effort.

All scams don't buy into them. The only way to win is to get lucky. Knowing the odds and knowing the horses helps, but you can never know for sure.

winning is a matter of chance, unless the race is fixed. you can research the odds and the past performances of the horses, but that would be as close to knowing that you could get

You have to go for a high(ish) odds horse with the most amusing name.
Has worked in the past for "Blowing Wind", "Hedge Hunter" but missed out on this years national with "Simon".

that episode of futurama where bender drugged all the other horses seemed to work. but seriously if there was a sure way to win it wouldn't be gambling and then the payoff wouldn't be worth it.
