if you have a flock of sheep who have gotten used to a shepherd protecting them and all of a sudden the shepherd completely destroys any possible threat to them forever, and opens a gate to a new pasture filled with lush grass and springs of clear water, they are hesitant to just go into the new pasture that has been prepared since the shepherd is nowhere to be seen-unless one of the sheep leads the way-i think that's where the pope steps in, as an 'earthly shepherd'...the only problem is, the sheep keep getting fleeced. if only they knew that The Good Shepherd is always watching them and they need no earthly shepherd...His flock knows His voice and follow Him, ignoring earthly shepherds with their own purposes

I don't think there's anything wrong with being rich and that rich people won't get too large a share in heaven just because they're rich in this world since I do know a few people who're rich and very honest and religiou people. But something DOES go wrong when these rich people claim a religion and don't practice it properly and aren't being good examples for those who're poor. As long as the Pope is following his religion properly and teaching it properly and is being a good role model for everyone -- including the poor -- then I don't think anything's wrong.
What's the point of the Pope, you ask? I don't know (and I'm not Christian, by the way; I'm Muslim). They're only for those Christians who decide to let others interpret the Bible for them instead of understanding, appreciating, and interpreting it on their own. I don't think that's right, but that's just me, I'm sure. :)
Edit: The Pope is supposed to be WHAT? Infallible??? Oh my goodness. I toooooootally disagree and would never accept ANY concept that teaches that a human can be infallible. There's one sect in Islam (Shiasm) in which most of its followers believe that their "Imaam" (the Muslim leader) is infallible, but the Quran teaches us that humans can never be infallible and that everyone sins. Being a pope or an imaam doesn't take anyone's ability to sin.

Gee are you holding some hatred deep down or what? let me tell you some facts that if you take the time on the net you can check out their truth.
When a Cardinal is elected Pope he cannot have any bank account at all,no savings and he does not get any wage at all.
Another thing the last Pope John Paul died in holy poverty,he did not even have a will because he had nothing to leave to anyone.
Finally the Pope is the spiritual head of 1 billion Catholics who look to him as the successor of Peter to guide them and you ask why he is needed! and no you do not have a problem with the Pope your problem is within your own heart.

The point of having a Pope.
Excellent question!
The High Priest of Israel (Annas, not Caiphas) abdicated his position by his declaration "We have no King but Caesar". If he doesn't represent the people to God, and God to the people, he's not the High Priest, as that is the job description.
Jesus was put to death after being found guilty of BEING "The King of the Jews".
The Bible says Jesus is our High Priest in the heavens, He is Lord and Savior of all those "born from above", who are "citizens of the Kingdom of Heaven". But because he is not upon the earth, Rome has usurped the office passed to them by the High Priest.
The Pope is nothing more than a continuation of the Babylonian succession as prophecied by Daniel. Babylon conquered Jerusalem, it passed to the Medo-Persian empire, then to Greece, and finally to Rome. The latter Caesars referred to themselves as "Pontifus Maximus", as have all the Popes.
All essential doctrines of Christianity have been turned on their heads by the Papal bulls through this age, and Catholicism has been the leading persecutor of the true church of Jesus Christ since its inception. See Foxe's Book of Martyrs for more on this point.
But if you think the Romish church is bad, the usurpation of religious authority by the Anglican church s since 1534 is far worse.
As we near the end of the age, we'll see the fulfillment of the fall feasts of the Lord very soon.

The Pope is a fatherly figure of the Catholic Church.
God blesses those who give. All born of God are blessed with all spiritual blessings.
I believe it is a calling of the five fold ministry. Jesus calls some to be Apostles, some Prophets, some Evangelists, some Pastors & some Teachers. So the question should be what office is the Pope of the five fold ministry. He seems like a Pastor or Teacher to me. A Pastor is like a shepherd of the flock. All of these ministries are aspects of Christ Himself. Jesus Christ is the Rock foundation.
Also, to consider the Pope is respected as a man of God to the world in general. So, when the Pope lifts up Jesus sacrifice to mankind (the crucifix) he is acually drawing people to Jesus. Jesus said that if He is lifted up, many will be drawn to him. So, this act alone, will reap rewards from God when people are drawn to Gods Saving Grace & receive Gods salvation.

I'm John Paul II Generation (JPII ... we love you).
Yes, the Pope is Bishop of Rome ... but also Vicar of Christ. He appoints Bishops and Cardinals to misister over the flock. Papal States are divided through out the world. Actuall the United States is modeled exactly like the Papal States.
JPII appointed Joseph Ratinger to be his right hand man in stabalizing faith during the biggest change in world history since the fall of Rome ... aka the HIPPIES. JPII was a great teacher (Christ), played a role in the fall of communism, mended relations with the Angelican's, Jewish, Islam, Buddhism and they all showed up grateful and joyful that he touched their lives at his funeral. JPII was good at reaching out the the Youth and hand many "World Youth Day's" around the world. He reached out to more countries than anyother Pope. Add to this all he made over 100 appologies for Christain mistakes.
As Joseph Ratizger, Pope Benedict XVI, helped JPII so much, we have the same foundation as JPII. This is so much better than a President who's only in office for 4 years. We've got real staying power and maintaining teachings. I loved Pope Benedict's Encyclical on "Love" ... It's good, if you are open to it please read it too.

The Pope is generally called the representative of Christ in this world and he is worshipped as a god by many but not all catholics. That is why he can be made a saint because he supposedly can come back and heal people or do miracles..
The title or office of pope is not found in the bible and was never taught by Jesus. We are taught by Jesus that if we want to be great in the kingdom of God we will be servant to all men.

Well I'm a Baptist and we believe according to the King James Version of the New Testament. This version indicates that there is no need for a human priest or the Pope anymore in that Jesus Christ is the High Priest and we can pray directly to him. Therefore, there is no need to confess to a sinful man. "All have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God".

The Pope is the Head of State of the Vatican. The Vatican used to be the government of the known world.
He is a religious leader to the Church. The Church has a whole hierachy of administrators throughout the world, and needs a single person to lead it.
The Church was a whole lot smaller and required less money to operate when Jesus started it.

The Pope is one step greater than a Cardinal it truly is one step greater than a bishop. he's the chief of the Catholic Church. No Catholic would desire to worship him in simple terms like no longer Catholic would desire to worship Mary or any Saint. the purpose is to steer you on your faith existence. coaching you the ideal thank you to stay your existence the comparable way Jesus did. He additionally facilitates shelter the helpless like the detrimental, the hungry and the unborn.
