Virtually all Americans who reject evolution know very little about it. Creationist reference sources are notoriously bad about falsely representing evolution and the Big Bang.
I used to read those Creationist sources thinking they were wise and factual. But now that I have studied science sincerely, I look back on those sources and am surprised when they get their evolution facts right.

It is a fascinating anomaly... follows the ignorance is bliss..line of thought perfectly.
I heard 91% of US citizens say they believe in god (Colbert report, Baptist ethical head guy). If you compare this to 5% of biological scientists in the NAS in America that believe in god-- this begs the question. What the heck are Amercian schools teaching these kids?
They trust the theory of gravity, and at 30,000 feet the theory of relativity but evolution which is as much of a fact as these - well they won't burn you at the stake anymore, they will just crucify you in other ways.
Sorry - not a non american christian, a non american atheist.

I believe in Adaptation Adaptation occurs over many generations; it is generally a slow process caused by natural selection. Acclimation generally occurs within a single lifetime and copes with issues that are less threatening. For example, if a human was to move to a higher altitude, respiration and physical exertion would become a problem, but after spending time in high altitude conditions one may acclimate to the pressure and function and no longer notice the change.

Most american christians accept evolution. It is our loud fundamentalists that have an issue and they scream about it all over the TV hoping to convince everyone that there is a real debate.

Canada accepts it. We don't have the problems that Americans do because we know to keep religion and politics separate. We don't even think about it, we just do it.
Only in the US are the Christians making such a fuss. Even in England, they view the fuss with amazement.

That is a very good point. It is probably due to the fact that the US is a virtual theocracy. No other developed country has even close to the same percentage of fundamentalists within it's ranks.

It is something I wish were studied more. Outside of GWB it is the single greatest reason why the USA is losing respect in the rest of the industrialised world,
