Salt is very important when cooking...it causes a chemical reaction called osmosis. That means it extracts, or pulls flavors from the ingredients.
Here is a cool experiment:
Slice an orange or lemon in half.
Sprinkle salt on one half.
Watch the juices flow from the salted half.

NaCl2 (Sodium and Choride). Table salt like Morton's is iodized which means iodine has been added. Sea salt is distilled from sea water which is the same compound. You can't make salt, it occurs in nature.
