In a way, yes.
However, I don't find it depressing that people practice religions and go to church because, much of the time, people's lives are bettered by religion. In my opinion, the most important thing about any religion is the values it teaches. If it teaches good values, and people live by them, then it's fine that they spend time at church or wherever.
On the other hand, I do get depressed when I see the people who spend all day standing around outside with signs telling people to repent and read the bible. Those types of people are not making anyone's lives better, including their own.

I'm going to agree with you. No debates here. Attending my parents' Catholic church is very uncomfortable. When they get to talking about blood and death and things like that, even my own son (7 at the time) looked up at me and said, "Whoa...blood? People being killed?", and when we got out, he questioned why I had him sit there and listen to the service but he couldn't see a PG movie. He had a point. I also don't like, in the service, right before Communion, where they say something like, "Lord, I am not worthy to receive you, but only say the word, and I shall be healed". Well, I sit there thinking...why do I need to be healed?? What did I do that was so wrong? I'm a good person. I don't swear. I don't break commandments. Why am I not worthy?? Why would anyone go to a church each week just to be 'beaten down' emotionally and told that no matter how they try, they're still not worthy, and they're still in need of being healed (fixed)? How can someone be fixed if they were never broken? Why do we have to pay the price for the serious sins that were apparently done in biblical times? If I didn't do the crime, I shouldn't have to do the time.

I sometimes am depressed by it, briefly. Then I think about a time in the future when all of this will be worked out and all religions will be gone, nothing more then entries in the history books. That kind of makes me sad because I do so enjoy having people around to disagree with.
Harmony is boring. I don't have to talk to the christians if I don't want to, but it's nice having a hearty selection of
opposing viewpoints around to play with. It makes the sandbox more interesting.
They've built a lot of weirdly fun architecture over the years, too. You should go see Gaudi's cathedral in Barcelona, if you haven't ever been there. It's a hoot! A masterpiece of strange.
I guess ignorance isn't bliss, but it IS good for a laugh.
--------------
Thanks for the great question, BTY. It seems to have sparked a lot of well thought out answers. I seem to be giving the christians a lot of "thumbs up" today. Unusual.

How appropriate you're. The lie that maximum Christians stick to is unquestionably that ignorant and meaningless. desire totally feedback like yours help those perplexed persons actually examine the bible. even extra desirable than 2,000 years extra the bible has no longer been proved fake to its historic or prophecy concepts. So, whilst analyzing the bible, a guy or woman might actually learn that Jesus might have "offered" a definite form of those that are going to heaven, and hell isn't a place of suffering. So relatively through fact of its accuracy a guy or woman could have self belief in previous activities, like persons elevating up the lifeless, no longer in straight forward terms Jesus yet older prophets, and the apostles. So is that particularly obtainable? Moder drugs is making a brilliant form of advances so its as much as a guy or woman. however the Bible's purpose is obvious, human beings will stay continually on earth, with many new initiatives planed out for them.

I don't go to church or take faith in the Bible, but I believe there is a purpose for existing. Do I get depressed by the concept of religion? No, I get depressed that I can't find peace in it. It's something to envy. Religion has been around as long as man has. Searching for a reason for being or a higher power is extremely humanistic...beyond natural. And the faith these people have..they're so strong. The concept of religion is something that helps people find significance and strength. I hate when some get carried away in their convictions but....without religion, we'd all be stuck, faithless in a miserable world. It can cause problems but...without any faith, I'd be too engulfed by guilt to be motivated to do anything.

Religion is a method of controlling people invented by the church centuries ago to control the land and the population. It is for the weak minded and is based on ancient works of fiction diluted through translation over hundreds of years. The foolish will find comfort in it, believing that some supernatural being is going to solve all their problems if they pray enough. It is a ridiculous and antiquated beleif system with no place in todays world, but It continues to be the cause of wars and death all over the world.
There is not one single benefit or uplifting factor about any religion in the world today.
deppressing? ha ! yes. just a bit.

It all depends. Since I like music, if they have a good organ and decent choir, I can deal with it. I guess the last time I was in church was to play the organ for a relative's wedding. That was okay. I guess if I was there and I didn't have anything to keep my mind occupied, I'd find it pretty depressing. Yeah, the self-righteousness does get to me, though. I just want to say, "your feet are clay, just like mine." I was on a church board for some years, and with a few exceptions I never met a more contentious and unlovable bunch of people. Same goes for a lot of the ordained, most of whom know whose hand they need to lick, and whose they can bite. Sorry folks, that's the plain truth of my many years experience.

1st of all, Bible-believing Christianity (not catholisism) is not a religion, it's a relationship. And 2nd of all, not having that relationship depressed me. Not knowing my purpose here? Not living for anything other then for myself? Aimless goals? I hated it. And now, I can't imagine soeone looking at my life and calling it depressing. I have fun as a Christian. I have fun with friends and family. I love life. So, it's a little harder. The rewards are amazing. I wouldn't have it any other way. But, on one note, I do agree with you. Self-rightous preaching is horrible and depressing. If the "christianity" they preached about was real, then I would agree. But, that's not Bible- based preaching. THat's comfort- based and selfish preaching. But, the real Christianity, that's something that is full of joy, even throught the tough times.

I'm just embarrassed for church people. The more I study the Bible the more I can see what nonsense it is. Especially the tantrums and magic tricks of the Bible god.
Then to top it off, Jesus gets up after being dead three days, and starts walking around like nothing ever happened; and rises into the sky and becomes a god.

Yes, it depresses me. I am deeply saddened to know that my friends, family, and neighbors are all so deluded. Most of these are very good people! Yet at times, some of them are rendered almost helpless by their irrational faith. They pray rather than act, they worry intensely (for themselves and their loved ones) about getting into heaven, they get in serious arguments about silly things like the need to go to church or eat fish on Fridays, and they give a good percentage of their wealth to organizations that often use the money for immoral ends (the priest's cadillac, brainwash children, acquire more art or land, etc.)
