Yep. Churches should be taxed - there's nothing in the seperation of church and state to justify not taxing them, it just means not interfering or promoting them. The IRS IS beginning to tax some of them when it catches them promoting certain candidates for election.

No ... churches are important to society for many reasons.
In Christianity, the congregation keeps pastors 100% accountable. The pastors I have had led regular lives with no frills.
The HUGE amount of money they collect is used to better the lives of humanity both here and abroad. Ever heard of the Salvation Army? They feed and clothe thousands regardless of denomination.

Apparently the tax system is lost on sentinel. Genius my money is already taxed when I give it to the grocery store. Why should grocery stores pay tax then?
The tax the chrutches get out of paying is property tax. I say they should be paying current and back property taxes.

i don't know where you got the idea that pastors are exempt from income taxes...but you're quite mistaken-pastors are taxed exactly the same as anyone else-i'm on the finance committee at our church, and this is one of our ongoing topics-ensuring that the pastor's witholding is calculated properly so that he can get his taxes filed accurately and on time-
would you also advocate that donations to the united way, red cross, salvation army, etc, also be taxed as income?

A very interesting thought.
If they taxed Jesus, I think they should be taxed.
Mat 17:24 And when they had come to Capernaum, those who collected the two-drachma tax came to Peter, and said, "Does your teacher not pay the two-drachma tax?"
Mat 17:25 He said^, "Yes." And when he came into the house, Jesus spoke to him first, saying, "What do you think, Simon? From whom do the kings of the earth collect customs or poll-tax, from their sons or from strangers?"
Mat 17:26 And upon his saying, "From strangers," Jesus said to him, "Consequently the sons are exempt.
Mat 17:27 "But, lest we give them offense, go to the sea, and throw in a hook, and take the first fish that comes up; and when you open its mouth, you will find a stater. Take that and give it to them for you and Me."
