I can't really imagine the life in Southeast Asia though I'm very curious. Interesting facts from what I know, men and women there are not "that" conservative as we think.
For better sexual pleasure, plastic surgery is popular like in Hollywood. I say some Americans I've known are more of a conservative type, which seems common to me.

If you follow their laws and respect their culture and religion, you should be just fine. I am a non-practicing Christian who had not converted to Islam (but I do study it) and I live happily in a Muslim country. They really do not care who you are as long as you are respectful.

For those who gave me a thumbs down, do YOU live in a Muslim country?? *I* do. I am speaking from firsthand experience. Do you have that kind of insight? I doubt it, so stop being ignorant.

If you can "play the game" in public and follow the laws and restrictions, it might not be so bad. When we had to live in Saudi Arabia for a while, it was bearable. The company would send us to London every so often so we could "destress" and unwind from that mindset. It's funny, while we were there it didn't seem so bad, but as soon as we were in a Western country the feeling of relief was overwhelming.

I'm not a Muslim so I cannot say for sure. I'm not sure you would survive in a Muslim country right now.
If you are not Muslim, you are not a believer. So they may let you alone, but you are still a non-believer and an infidel.
A true Muslim is for peace and the Koran says those who do good are rewarded. So they may not harm you, but there is so much unrest now and some radicals may take you as a hostage. Then what?

Muslims do not recognize a "separation of church and state" like western countries do. Whether you are religious is entirely beside the point. THEY are religious. If you can deal with that, you'll be okay. Happy? Who knows?
