Death is an enemy. Even when we have a faith and have the hope of a resurrection, to lose someone in death is still difficult. When someone we loves die, we will all grieve, and that grief will take different forms.
We know that Jesus wept when Lazarus died - and he knew he was going to raise him from the dead, its not wrong to cry. He was showing empathy and when we want to comfort someone who has lost someone dear, then we too want to show empathy, and if necessary cry with them.
The Bible offers a wonderful hope, so when they are ready to talk about it, we want to show them this hope. That they are sleeping in death and are conscious of nothing (Ecclesiastes 9:5,10). But that there is a wonderful hope which is being extended to all those in the grave - a resurrection back to the earth (John 5:28,29). And finally, we also want them to know that soon death will be a thing of the past (Revelation 21:4).

Death is not the Christians' enemy. Death ushers us into the very presence of God forever. That's not a bad thing.
However, we who are left behind when someone does go to be with the Lord do need comforting. Paul doesn't say we don't grieve; he says we don't grieve the same way as those who have no hope. We know our loved ones are with Him, but we still miss them here. Visit, talk, comfort, take food, spend time with, love, and care for anyone who's recently lost a loved one. Laugh or cry with them, as they like. Reminisce, if you can, or let them talk to you about the lost loved one. Listen well and don't tune out.

Can't, presuming that they are not Christian if U speak in Truth & their loved one wasn't a Believer U would have to tell them where they will be spending Eternity if they ask! However U could see to it that they have the "Good News" so they don't have to go to Hell as well & then the H.S. would comfort them after they believe. As a Believer, Death is not our Enemy, but the beginning of Eternal Life in a Perfect environment with no more pain or suffering & ALL the Chocolat Ice Cream U can Eat!! John & Tam

Well, if you mean that death is our enemy, it isnt.
I am a Christian, and I believe there are two possible ways to spend the after life, in heaven or in hell, but Christianity is only one of many religions that believe in something after death.
But, as to comfort that person, there really isnt much you can do except simply be there for them. Sometimes the best comfort is a hug, more than a nice word. Time is the best cure for grief, just wait for the pain to go away with them.
