just a matter of preference or appearance. They both work the same. Neither has any advantage over the other. Undercounter mount is a little trickier to install is about the only real difference I can think of.

If you are going solid surface countertop and sink, undermounting is preferable because there are no little "crud catchers" around the outside of the sink rim. But there are lovely drop in sinks too, its really just what you prefer the look of.

If it's a marble counter top, a sink mounted under the surface is nice, but if installed properly, A drop in can be just as nice, it's purely an aesthetic thing really.

Personal preference! I prefer under-mounted. Fewer cleaning issues that drop in sinks create like built up around the fixtures and seal. Plus the look is smooth and sleek. Your choice however.

I've had both and prefer the undermount. It's easy to wipe crumbs into the sink - and they don't get stuck under the rim.
