The highways are safer. Parents are more inconvenienced.

It would be an example of limiting the rights for some for the greater good of many.

Say you raise the age from 16 to 17.
Those between 16 and 17 would have to continue being inconvenienced like they have been all along. They would lose a right, under the law.

What anyone on the highway gains is a reduction of immature drivers on the road, which will cut down accidents.

Granted, some 16 year old drivers are more mature than some 16 year old drivers, but that's how it works.

Pros are that statistically drivers between the ages of 16-18 almost have 1 accident or more. This is likely due to not enough time spent practie driving with a liscensed driver. The cons are that it hinders the youths independence and most begin jobs at 16 years of age.

pros, people may be more mature and be better prepared for the reponsibilities that come along with driving
con, if you raise the age closer to the drinking age, then people may be more likely to drink and drive because both priviledges came around the same time

Pros = less rude people on the roads
Cons = You have to take your kids to wherever they go a few more years
