I used to have two beagles. They are great with kids, howl sometimes, but are somewhat protective towards children. They're loyal and good hunting dogs.

Hound breed, generally used for chasing rabbits. Also make good house pets but they will still have the desire to get out and hunt. Good alround pet for a kid in the country to grow up with

heard that they bark a lot.....run away if you let them out off a chaine....and that they are hard to potty train.....
