Nobody really knows for sure. Those statistical studies people cite aren't all that accurate because Iraq doesn't have the infrastructure and stability right now to conduct a large survey of accurate data.

I would say there is just a trade off. Instead of people being killed by the government, there are people being killed in the war. Yes that sucks, but it is a war, and there's naturally going to be some instability because Iraq is being built as a completely new nation.

I have never heard of this Irak, but Iraq is definitely not safer since the US arrived. More civilian deaths have occurred since the war started than ever died during the reign of Saddam. Things might have been bad for a very small percentage of the Iraqi population under Saddam, but now things are horrible for all of the Iraqi population.

Depends who you are.

If you happen to be a Sunni Arab, especially from Tikrit area- it is much, much worse today.

if you happen to be a Shia Arab, especially from the southern marshes, or a Kurd, or anybody with a will of his own then the place is much, much safer. Even in the middle of Baghdad.

Simply because all the suicide bombers put together don't manage to kill and maim even a fraction of the number of people the Saddam's secret policemen did in the "normal times" of "peace"

im sure the kurds think so, if it was up to the pelosi ites we wouldve sat on our hands and saddam woudve gassed them all while pelosi wouldve used the iraq defense money to gas up her jet and do more junkets at taxpayer expense.
