G'day,
I am an immigrant and have been living in Melbourne for 16 years and never regret the move at all. I do not have Anglo-Saxon appearance, I speak English with an accent and I still feel like I am born in this country all along. My neighbors are combinations of immigrants and true blue Aussies and we are getting along very well. Racism will always be there in any country, but I definitely do not feel it here.
Having said that, the earlier answerers are saying the right thing as well... visit 1-2 Australian cities for a holiday (abt 1-2 weeks) and see how you like it. Some ppl do not like it b'cos even the biggest city (Sydney) is not like their homecity ;)
Good luck :)

Your colour will not be a bar to migrating to Australia. It would have been forty years ago but the White Australia Policy is long gone. There is some racism in Australia, there is in every country, but you will find less here than you do in the USA. Australians are not so hung up about race as Americans. The only group identified separately are the Aboriginal Australians if they want to be, otherwise everyone is the same.

First, do you know anyone down there? Second, I'd say that you should visit before making the drastic move of moving to Australia.
I have been thinking about moving to the UK. I have a friend who already lives there but I'm going to visit in about a year or two before I make my final decision.
Just a thought.

I think you should come out here for an extended holiday and see if you like it and fit in. Wether you are black, white or blue, it doesnt really matter here. Of course we have our racisim issues just like any other counrty, but i think your average Australian is willing to accept anyone who is living here to better thier lives and who are willing to live peacefully. We really have a beautiful counrty here, but a totally different climate and likestyle to the US or the UK. Good luck in and decision you make though, im sure you'll make the right one.

Have you been there? If not I think you should go for Holiday first to see if you like and live there. I have been there for 3 months, lovely country but couldn't live there.

If you have loved ones here that you do not want to leave, don't go. But if there is an opportunity that you feel is awaiting you, go.
